Allotments 4 All

This week we have been geting a new but regular visitor in the garden. A pheasant!

At least once a day 'he' comes down onto our top lawn to feed. One day even came down when iwas working up there, so not that afraid of humans.

Whilst we back onto fields, the area is not known for these birds. Judging by the size of it and the lack of fear of humans i can only guess that it has been reared in captivity and has managed to escape somehow, finding our garden to be a nice restauraunt!

get me a picture of it digging up your seedings, they scratch around just like chickens. then get me a picture surrounded by potatoes (roast ones)

Maybe if  it scratched around deep enough it could harvest the roasties itself, convenience food at it's best.  ;D

I am so very pleased about your tame pheasant. 

It is quite right that they stampede on plants.  We have one that comes to feed every day in our garden.  He comes from the Van Hage garden centre the other side of the road and he has no respect for my borders  :( ::) ;D

But I can put up with that as he is a great sight !  Good luck!

WEll I have a tame pheasant too who is quite a womaniser.  He has been coming to feed in our garden for some time now along with his lady pheasant.  I have photos of them feeding but am sorry to say I just dont know how to post photos on here or you would have seen ' Freda' pecking the blue tits 'fat' with Fred watching her below.   Fred now has 2 ladies following him.  He is quite some lad.  I do not bother about them walking on my garden, its a mess anyways.  Maybe one day, I will share my photos with you all.

We are now deliberately feeding 'Phesie' on the top lawn, so he has not taken any interest in my borders yet. I dont yet have any unprotected seedlings in the garden, but when i do i will take precautions.

Heritage - I dont like roast pheasant, and wouldnt covet this one for food even if i did. What a cruel suggestion!  Phesie's probably come here to escape being eaten.

They are very friendly birds, and very greedy.  This one would have jumped onto my lap if I had let him. We were picnicing at Chatsworth House last summer and I think he must have consumed almost half of my lunch :o :)

You know its strange. Ever since I told you all about it, I hanent seen the pheasant at all!

Hey arn`t they great, we have been feeding one since last winter, we call him Phil.The only downside is that he crows almost like a cockerel.

Above, I mention my tame Pheasant 'Freddy'.  Alas, he is no more and been a bit upset tonight.  Saw a body in the middle of the main road and sure enough its 'Freddy'.  I am sure he has visited us for few years now with his ladies.  I did not leave his bod on the road, he deserved more than that.    I know, I know I am nuts, but there you go, takes all kinds.  I have kept his tail feathers  ::) ::) ::)   Definately, this woman is nuts.

I would have done EXACTLY the same as you did.  Ours is like a pet - Hope his wife is not too lonely now he has gone.  :'(

Oh Marian, I think she must be sitting on eggs cos she comes alone and in a hurry, hope she copes.   :o :o :o :o

Oh Carol, that is terrible news!  If anything was to happen to her, the little ones would die of hunger.  That is so terribly sad !  :'(

The other day we were driving down the road when we came upon a pheasant. It was standing in the middle of the road staring at our car looking just like gardengirl's photo. We slowed right down to almost a stop before it decided to walk to the side of the road and let us pass. My son promptly announced that it was a "lollipop bird" !  They will forever more be known as such in our house.  If I ever see one letting some chicks cross I'll let you know!

Lovely photos. They are very beautiful when you really get to look closely.

Just to let you all know, i havent seen 'our' pheasant again since i last posted about it. He's just disapeared without trace. :( :( :(
