A bloke at work reckons they have seed spuds in our local B&Q, miles too early, I advised him against buying any yet and they never store them in the best conditions.     ???    :-\        :D
I just checked, I bought mine on  23rd of Jan last year.   :D

If possible try your own allotment shops. They should know what grows well in your soil and they need our support.

My dad spotted them in there a week ago, I had to see for myself, so I popped when I was passing, and yes, there they are, much too early  ??? They will all be shriveled when it is time to buy some, I think I will stick with wilkos.

We had a couple of kilos from B&Q last year at this time and they were brilliant. We bought the bulk from our local independant garden centre.
We gave up buying from our allotment hut as over the years they've turned up later and later and very poor quality, sad but true  :(

Good post Kev, it's too early as you say - good for B&Q if they get the business, but bad for the innocent punters when the seeds get leggy sprouts.  I'll get mine at the potato day, last weekend January, and that still leaves them a long time sitting in a warm spare room chitting.

Mum told me Wyvales (that was) have had theirs in for a week or so.

I ordered mine a few days ago from Thomson and Morgan as they had a special offer of free postage (now expired).

I have ordered 20 each of red Duke of York, Picasso, Maris Piper and Sante, at a total cost of £16.46.  T & M's email order confirmation shows delivery early January to mid May.  I want to plant them in April so hope they arrive in January or February so I can chit them.

I ordered Picasso from them for the 2011 season and they were excellent; the best potatoes I have ever grown.  I usually order from Tucker's but thought I would get them all from T & M this year.

The Ryton and Chesterfield Potato days are at the end of January... plenty soon enough!

Amazingrotavator(Derby)

Went to Wyvale today and bought some swift to put in the greenhouse on the lotte. Ordered a load from T&M but they won't be here until January/May.

Our B&Q also has spuds and onion sets...

Our potato day in Bollington is 28th Jan so I'll wait for that.. great prices and big selection.

Wyevale have got theirs in - why not buy them as soon as you see them so you store them cool?  They were all harvested at the same time.

Last year we struggled to find any Lady Crystl round here so I ended up buying a T&M bag from Wyevale and wished I'd picked them up at the beginning of the selling period.  But they were great - and the Vets who bought them loose got a good crop of earlies too but they definitely weren't Lady Cs.

Not sure why you say it is too early. Our local allot ass have had their potato seed delivered before christmas for about the last 20 years. They buy in bulk but already in 6 Kgs bags if the seed in put edge up in trays straight away and kept in a COLD but frost free room by the time it comes to planting you will have very good strong shoots.
