Anyone found a good source of enviromesh? I need some for my later sowings of peas but haven't really got a spare £60 for 20m at the moment... (Harrods Horticulture prices)...

I bought some fleece once from SCATS & it fell apart after a month - completely lost all it's strength, so am a bit wary of cheap stuff, but surely someone must sell good stuff at good prices over the internet?

Thanks!

We like LBS Garden Warehouse for this sort of thing.  The good news is that they're much cheaper than HH.  The bad news is that you have to buy 100 metres. http://www.lbsgardenwarehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=R-HA&name=enviromesh&sfile=1&jump=0

They also sell 25g/m2 heavy duty fleece which is much cheaper than Enviromesh.  Obviously it won't last as long, but the initial investment is less painful.

Hi

I bought some agralan enviromesh the other day from my garden centre. It cost £9.00. It measures 10x6 feet! At the moment I cant afford buying huge amounts of enviromesh.
If you want a large amount of coverage try scaffold debris netting. I am getting good results with it at the moment over my brassica bed

I got mine from Dobies 2 packs for £34 10x2m each and then got another two packs for a Chrissie prezzie ;D

If it is for peas a 1cm net will do the trick

I am a debris netting (from e-bay) user as well and cannot see me ever buying environmesh which at the quoted price works out five times more expensive than the debris netting (which, including postage, cost me less than £30 for 50mx2m).

When you say Debris netting is that the stuff they put round scaffold? Doed it let enough light and water through?

I use debris netting as a secondary cover lets through sufficient light and water,do you know any one in the building trade that could *borrow*some on a long term basis?
If it ain't broke don't fix it !!

Thanks for the replies - another question to the debris netters - are you using debris netting for them to climb up or to stop pea moth? I thought it had great big holes in it!

A couple of thoughts:

1.   Cheap Fleece is not so durable.
2.   Cheap Mesh does not bar Flea Beetle. Better mesh is much heavier & hell to handle – slippery as a frog! All Mesh takes a lot of storage room.
3.   Debris Netting may not bar Cabbage Whites – the anchor slots are big enough for a CW to squirm though - see below.
4.   Fleece lies over seedlings happily – Netting flattens them.
5.   Mesh & Netting are more water permeable than Fleece.

I have had no cabbage white this year using debris netting~~I keep checking for caterpillars etc!! However using a sewing machine I stitched out the attachment holes with a seam~~~so no more attachment holes  ;D Debris netting lets sufficient water through!

There haven't been any CWs this year - thank God!!

Stitching? What devotion! How many holes are there in a roll 50m x 2m??

I opened up my brassica nets yesterday to weed and one followed me in.  My neighbour had just let one out of his nets.  I guess we've got your share down here too then?

Hello Tim....

It took me seconds to stitch by machine my netting to cover my 10x4 foot raised bed! I needed to get rid of the holes!!

Duke~~~dont let the name fool ya !! I am a lady  :P

Got ours from Suttons seeds. 2 for about £30. I sew down the long sides to make a pocket for the canes to go through and then I thread thin wire through the ends and gather it up and tie. I do have to put some weights on it to keep the nosy foxes out but this year has done the job great

I ask the local farmers for theirs when they take it off their 1st earlies. It's 2.5 mts X as long as you want. They are alway happy to let me have as much as I want and I give them homemade produce as a thank you.
