Hee hee!

I never see squirrels. The last one I saw was a grey kept in a cage in a sanctuary nearby. He isn't allowed out because we still have reds. So I'm told but I've not had the pleasure of seeing one.

Jesse

I love watching them in the garden, I know the grey ones are a pest but I still think they're cute :)

The red ones ar normally much shyer, although when I was a child we used to visit Dawsholm PArk in Glasgow (don't even know if the park still exists) and it was well known for its red squirrels which were quite quite tame and would eat out of your hand.

Whippet

I have seen plenty of grey squirrels - but never a red - unfortunately.

You can take me out of Yorkshire - but you can't take Yorkshire out of me

Every year, due to grey squirrels, all the bulbs that I have in the garden get moved around. Apart from the ones they eat it's quite nice to see daffs and tulips popping up in strange places.  :D

We don't get squirrels or rabbits here as too many people in the village have shotguns.  I am grateful that bunnies aren't eating my veggies and squirrels not raiding the bird nuts but I wouldn't have the heart to kill them!  :'(

Carol

I don't get squirrels in my garden but they are around.  There are red squirrels in the grounds of Paxton House so have seen them quite a bit.  Also Drumlanrig Castle grounds have the Red Squirrel, so really I see the reds more than the greys.

;D ;D ;D ;D

I've only seen a red squirrel once, when I was a child, in Derbyshire, he was beautiful. We have  greys here - North Notts, I work part time in a hospice and the patients and visitors love to watch their antics. I'd far rather see a red though  :( They're talking seriously about a grey cull aren't they, DEFRA and The Forestry Commission I think the BBC news website said?

GW lovely picture!

The greys are the bane of my life, lost ALL my tulips, and in the end I had to put my bulb pots into my cold frame until all rooted.  :(

What is it with you and wild animals?? Badgers, squirrels....you are so lucky :D :D

Svengali

Having read this post, I invested in a Squirrel Stop spray, & went round puffing all my emerging bulbs!
I only hope that it works.
I live in red squirrel territory - though not quite as far as this from the forests - but at the end of last year a couple of greys took over the garden, apparently the first time that they have been seen locally.
They immediately built a nest in my roof, an igloo built out of fibreglass insulation. Result? a bill for almost £3000 to replace all my fascia boarding!
Wildlife can get a teensy bit expensive!

I'd have put rat poison where they were nesting; no danger of anything else getting it there.

Svengali

Pippa would have put rat poison in my tea if I did that!

Dawsholm Park in Glasgow is the only place I have ever seen a red one , it still exists Grawrc, although I had one running around outside my cold frame last week.
