Is anyone else in the SE getting thunder loud and large enough to make your teeth rattle....seriously!  I'm glad I'm on the first floor as well, I'm a little concerned about the amount of rain...my balcony is under a good inch of rain and everything is getting just a bit battered  :o

I noticed the weather forecast this morning predicted a band of serious rain moving across the south during the day. Would that be as opposed to a band of frivolous rain?  ;D

Yep, this is the serious stuff, it has sharp corners and pointy teeth  :(  I ventured out to move my corn flowers and after two steps I thought rather them than me and came back inside.  The guilt is eating away at me as I gaze at their poor drooping heads and at least one broken neck  :(

I'm sick of this rain.  My B & B has become a colander.  Rain leaking in two chimneys and damaging me wall paper.  Husband got massive ladder up to roof to try and sort it but couldn't manage it.  going to have another go tomorrow if rain stops.
I came, I saw, I composted

Oh heck, am I the only one who hasn't heard the thunder but would love to hear it over the Oval for the next 2 days?

PS Wardy so sorry to hear about your leaks.  Was very specific about my wish!

PPS Wardy, can hubbie do roofing? If so, is he for hire?  Got some dodgy flashing around OUR chimney stacks too!

maddy,
eyensham drive is a lake! the police have closed it completely and there are fire engines pumping the water out. i just came home from dartford and there are areas of flooding all over the place!
why oh why is my council house built on a floodplane? (reclaimed marshland no less :-\)
i'm putting all our important papers and stuff in plastic boxes UPSTAIRS before i go to bed. the thunder and lightening and rain have stopped but the sky still looks very heavy and my dog is still cowering so i guess there may be more to come.

No thunder, but an inch of rain in a few hours.

D & T        Hope by now you're not sheltering on your top floor from flood water.  It must be nerve wracking waiting for it to happen  :(  Hope your dog is ok.  It's awful when they're frightened

It's stopped raining here and is quite warm now.  I want to get to lotty as I left onions on floor to dry!

Husband is no roofer that's why he's only armed with a silicone gun.  I suggested roofers don't use silicone to repair flashing but he said what did I know  ;D

No Thunder but a little bit of rain, still not enough rain, very dry soil.

thankfully no flood in my street but the next street down got some and round the corner sustained a lot of damage.
poor david was camping at a bike rally this weekend and our tent (which stayed watertight in the deluge at glastonbury) failed to keep the rain out. now, already soaking wet and cold, he has to ride home on his motorbike from cambridge.
hot tea and sympathy may be in order when he finally gets home.

Tara, glad to hear you escaped the worst of it although your dog may disagree with me.  My cat (who is usually the bravest one in the house) was found cowering under the tall boy in my bathroom last night and as it's feet are only about 4 inches tall that's quite an achievement!!  It really was amazing...an inch of rain in an hour, fortunately like I said I'm on the first floor and there are only garages beneath me but I was genuinely concerned about the risk of flooding.  Glad everything is drying out now.

We had a bit of a tail-end of "Katrina"  couple of weeks ago- I happened to be in the basement, painting, and it was tipping it down outside, when I eventually realised (Doh) I was standing in water, so I was lucky I was there. Then there was an almighty bang, and the electricity went off for a few seconds. After I cleared up the wet in the basement, I went upstairs to find my computer had been blown out of service, and also the capacitor in the air-conditioner had blown also. So I had a damp basement, no computer, and sitting at 35 Celsius, with no Air-conditioner, sweltering....
Strange condition's all over the Globe, eh? ???

I was at a BBQ (of all things!) yesterday afternoon/evening and the thunderstorm was quite spectacular, enhanced by the alcohol consumed no doubt! I am mad about cricket and have mixed feelings which vary from hoping it rains for the next 2 days and hoping that England hang on to survive for an Ashes winning draw! Tense times here!!

wardy

I think the weather helped England's test hopes yesterday (divine intervention perhaps)  :)  Hope it's enough.  It's going to be a nailbiting time today

Just read in the Times that someone in Dartford had to be rescued form 5 foot of rain !  On Sunday a lot of the shops in Bexleyheath broadway had been flooded out.  I think this area got the most in the shortest time.  It just started as I left the lotty on Sat,gave up for a few hours, then came back with a vengance.
Get with the beat Baggy

yep - thunder in East London/West Essex on Saturday afternoon. Absolutely chucked in down when we got to the riding school for our lesson. Had to hide in a stable and watch the water rush like a river down the yard. An empty bucket about 15mins later had 2in of water in it. The lesson before our chickened out. We were close to going home, but fortunately it cleared up and the thunder stopped (I don't mind riding in the rain, but thunder and horses is not a good combination!) so we continued. Still, the horse I was on did everything in his power to try to dump me in the mud!
gone to pot :D

Hi Baggy, can vouch for that - took my eldest daughter riding in Bexley village yesterday morning and the indoor arena had turned into a swimming pool (albeit a very muddy, manure-y one)!

Cheers,
Rob :)
