I can't believe it !! My wife convinced me to enter some veg in the village Gardening Society Show and guess what     ??????
I won 2 first prizes and a third.  She now is regretting it because I'm so chuffed, I'm going up to strangers in the street and telling them about my success. Look out Chelsea... Dinger is on his way ;D
BTW the 2 firsts were for my Patty Pan Squashes and my Sweet Corn and the 3rd was for my Runner Beans (the largest number of entries in the show this year were in this class)  I didn't realise how competitive some of the entrants are, some people travel around the local villages entering into nearly every category.....Sad B......s I'm only in it for the lovely fresh bounty on my dinner plate. :)
Anyway I can now rest easy and leave the rest of the season to nature to take care of and start ordering my seed catalogues for next year.  Thanks everyone for being so helpful this year, and for being there when my tomato crop succumbed to the dreaded blight  :-[.   My leeks and purple sprouting are looking great and my plot is ready to receive garlic cloves for next year.

Well done Dinger  :)  Now you've got the bug you'll be one of those sad b's carting yer veggies round all the local shows.  None round here any more  :(

I can understand you wanting to tell everyone about your success but not everyone is as understanding as folks on here.  Most folks I talk to about lottying think I'm a bit wierd and sad.  I am   ;D
I came, I saw, I composted

Well Done Dinger. Was this you're first time showing? OOOps just noticed the title  :-[ sorry.

Well done Dinger  :D  That is some achievement.  To win prizes for your vegies is very difficult in our local show.  The judges are so precise.   My daugher entered the 'five varieties of herbs' category and because she had two different variety of sage (which are quite different - 'purple' and 'blackcurrant'), they did not award her the first prize she would have won.

Long may your success continue - you will no doubt be totally hooked on showing now ;) ;D
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Any photos of the show, Dinger?

Congrats dinger! I did the same this weekend, entered my first show & also won two firsts and a third. firsts for aubergines from a plant my lottie neighbour gave me and the heaviest potato in show, and a third for my rhubarb. Actually, the aubergines also won the "most meritous vegetable in show" trophy which was a nice surprice. They sure are competitive though! The woman who'd won the cup last year was interrogating my about my veg, which was bizarre.

Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

Excellent result - I take you're going to be a regular show goer in coming years then  ;D
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!

Well done Dinger - I came nowhere in our lotty one - it was based on variety and presentation rather than individual veg and in my first year I just did not have enough variety (or any idea how to present it)
