Thought I'd say Hi to everyone as I've just registered!  ;D

Feel a bit of a fraud at the moment, as I haven't actually got an allotment yet.  :-[   I'm going to see the Allotment Secretary on Sunday, to pick out a plot.  Had a nice surprise though, as he said the plots are 30ft by 75ft. :o  Is this typical?  All that space to fill with greens and flowers!!! :D

I've no previous experience so you'll probably see loads of posts from me asking loads of Q's!

Sheldon, Birmingham.  I've put the pin on Google Earth where my shed is, in the allotments.  It's in an area with a satellite photo which is cool!  You can't miss it, there's a bl**dy great big Airport next door!

Welcome to the site MutantHobbit from another relative newbie.  You won't go short of advice around here, everyone is exceedingly helpful, the years of experience must go into the thousands.

Have fun,

M.

TEL

Hi MutantHobbit
Welcome to the site.
You will be surprised how fast you can fill an area of that size.
Have fun.

Good morning MH and welcome to A4A

Yep - I have to agree with Tel. You'll soon have that area filled and will be looking for more space.
Granny is still your best friend !

;) Hi MH and welcome aboard ;D I see you are a Brummie too, could we be neighbours, whereabouts is your lottie? 8)

bupster

Hey, mutant, yes that space is standardish. I know, it's huge. It actually gets bigger in the first few weeks as you measure out a couple of reasonably sized beds and then realise how many more you'd have to measure out to fill the space  :D

Eventually, apparently, it gets smaller, whereupon you start on another plot. By the time you have filled this up you have no hobbies bar growing food and eating it, and your friends scream at the sight of courgettes.

Luckily I have no hobbies other than these anyway, so bring it on  :D
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Hi MH,  Welcome to the Board and good luck with your plot.  As everybody says you will soon fill it up, -  best to have too much to start with than too little.  Let us know how you get on.  :) busy_lizzie

Good luck with your new plot. I'm sure you'll learn loads from it, the other allotmenteers and the experts on here!

 ;D Hi everyone!

Thank you one and all for the very warm welcome and the gentle encouragement.  :)  You sure seem like a friendly group! ;)  It's really made me feel better, after a really crappy day!

I've got over the fright of hearing it was a such large piece of land.  It's good to hear that it will become managable, and I feel like like an artist approaching a blank white canvas! :-\   You have to bear in mind though,  that I live in a flat with no garden.  Well, that's not strictly true my garden is a large country park with an airport next to it! ::)

I just go outside the flat, pop down an alley and there I am, my dog's idea of heaven!  I'll have to take a photo and post it on site to show you all what I'm rambling on about.

Still, roll on Sunday, and I'll get to choose my plot!  Now, where am i gonna scrounge some tools from...

Hey, Bupster, thanks for the warning!  Didn't realise lotties could be so addictive... :D

Busy Lizzie, I'm sure I'll become a regular on the forum, most people end up trying  to pay me to try and get some peace & quiet for a bit... :-[

Roy, the Allotments are in Sheldon, I don't know if you're familiar with the area.  They're under the flight path of the planes taking off and landing at Birmingham International Airport.  The back fence of the allotments are about 200 m from the end of the runway!

Svea, haven't got a garden and haven't needed to bury anyone under a patio lately...  ;)

Good for you redclanger, you didn't find any bodies underneath did you?  :o

And to everyone else, I'm sure I'll end up exchanging with you at some point :)

:( Your miles away from me, mine is at the foot of the Frankley Beaches hill close by the M5 services, do you wave to the passengers when they fly passed whilst ducking ;D ;D

Wo - and I go to my lottie for a bit of peace and quiet as well as all the other reasons.  Don't think it is the same for you - except during the we houurs of the morning.

I don't think I'd like planes going overhead  :o  My lotty is dead quiet and I find I get right narked when the police whizz past with sirens going.  Bet there's   no emergency - they are just mad  ;D

Hope you enjoy your new plot MH (planes permitting) and that you get some veggies in soon  :)

I came, I saw, I composted
