Found this on another site and thought you might all be interested to see which flower was yours.

Eileen, what a good site - was specially interested in the Caitness (my home county) flower Scots Primrose and had no idea it was so rare.  The Edinburgh one (Sticky Flycatcher) I can believe as it certainly grows in Queens Park as it says, and elsewhere!

Yorkshire's the harebell
QuoteTHE flower of dry, open, windy places from the hills to the sea. Their papery beauty belies their extraordinary toughness and resilience.
All best - Gavin

I read about the poppy being the flower of Essex in the local rag.  Some reakon the primrose would be more suitable.  Wish perennial poppies would do the business for me, have got one just about to open, but that was a gift as I just can't get them to germinate!

they had a great 'hut' when i went to the eden project where you had to vote for your county flower and fill in a survey as to how many of the wild flowers you had seen.

my home flower is lincolnshire - common dog violet

Wild Daffodil, my eye - Dandelion more likely!! = Tim

Well, there's a surprise!  Hop is Kent's county flower!  Trust boring south east to have least exciting plant, in spite of the fact that I have to admit to enjoying the beer down here.

Why couldn't it have been jasimine or something sweeter smelling?  :D

We have the Spring Gentian as ours, it's blue so i suppose that represents the colour if our skin as it's usually freezing up here all year round   ;D

What a great site!

I am torn as to which county to stick with.

Born in the old county of Westmorland (Dad wont let me forget that we are Westmorland through and through)- Alpine forget me not.

A Cumbrian at heart (because I am) - Grass of Parnsassus.

A dweller of the City of Nottingham - Nottingham Catchfly.

And an adopted Nottinghamian - Autumn crocus.

Not a bad collection of flowers though.

Newcastle Upon Tyne's is a monkey flower - surely Hartlepool?

Mimi

Snowdon lily for us here in Caernarfonshire.  Had to believe such a pretty and delicate flower lives on the sides of Snowdon. I  have never seen one, but, just maybe one day, I'll make it up the top and spot one :D
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Chaz Hunter

The flower for my present county (Staffordshire) is the Heather, understandable I suppose with the wild'n'windy moors in the north of the county. My home county's (Suffolk) flower is the Oxlip, still very prevalent in the woodland, hedges and ditches.

carrot-cruncher

Not sure which to go for

live in Leicestershire so that's the foxglove

native of Lincolnshire so that gives me the common dog violet

but Dad's a native of yorkshire so that's the harebell

Can I have all three to avoid any arguments?

What a great site Eileen :)  Here in Hertfordshire we have the Pasqueflower(pulsatilla vulgaris) a beautiful purple flower which grows on limestone hillsides.
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Hi Eileen,

Great site,I join you in the spotted orchids! Must be all the bings!

I am surprised it is not wild garlic as it is growing in lavish quantities all around!

Something new that has grown on Oakbank is the cowslip or oxlip, not expert enough to tell which..
It has grown from one solitary plant we saw about 7 years or so ago,to numerous clumps, which is heartening!
