We all know how delightful the blackbirds song can be, but mine uses the top of my roof as his singing post, which is right by my bedroom window, and he arrives as early as 3.30 in the morning, :o singing away while i am trying to bury my head under my pillow :'(

He warbles away and it sounds like he is singing...."I'm a barbie girl" ::) over and over and over ;)

Then he sings what sounds like  "Red army, red army"
Then lets out a long trill like the old trill telephones.

Now during the day, he can sing away to me all day long, his presence is a pleasure...... but please no more, not right under my bedroom window :-X

Here he is at the top of the roof

And my bedroom is to the right of the pic

Anyone want to borrow a blackbird for a few weeks? ;D

:) I think I would love to hear the song of the Blackbird even in the early hours.

I would wake and smile a little while and drift back to sleep contented, He's just calling his Wife to start a life so it can all be reinvented. Bum bum, sorry too much Red again  ::) ;D

honeybee

lol at you Roy.
Now if ONLY i could smile and then DRIFT BACK TO SLEEP  ::)
It doesnt seem to work like that though  ;)
Never mind, i do love him, hes forgiven ;D

Now put that glass down, its bedtime  ;)

 :D :D

One of our blackbirds takes up the same poise on the roof and sings his heart out, dont hear him at 3 a.m. tho. I seem to be a deep sleeper.  All the blackies are busy just now, I cant keep them going on raisons at the moment.

I also made one of my mad dashes on Sat. morning.  I looked out the bedroom window and caught a glimpse of the sparrowhawk in hot pursuit of a skreeching blackbird.  I took off out the front door following the noise, up our drive and into our next door neighbours front garden.  I was searching for the Hawk and hoping the blackbird was still alive.  Guess what,  no sign of Sparrowhawk.  I know they have got to eat, but please, not the blackbirds.

:o :o :o

Oh Carol ......(oops, i nearly burst into song then  ::) ;D).....that must have been awful, i hope he got away  :'(

Yellow Petals

We have a Robin who starts to sing at 1.30am each day.  My husband sometimes gets cross because he wants to sleep enough for work the next day.  I on the other hand feel it's almost like a lullaby, I can quite easily just lay there and listen until I drift off (beats counting sheep)

Whenever I hear a blackbird sing at dusk, it reminds me of family holidays back when I was much younger.  We used to stay on a holiday site in St Osyth and I remember one particular holiday when each day the sun would start to go down and a blackbird would perch himself on a washing pole not far from our chalet and sing until almost dark.  Lovely!

Funny how some things take you right back to your childhood YP  :)

Glad to know that your birds get up earlier than mine, that is comforting to know  ;D

My better half never hears the birds, but that probably because he cant hear over his snores ZZZzzzzz  ;D

Mrs Ava

Glad ours don't start until 5am!  Problem is, wakes the kids far to early!

The ones that drive me absolutely crazy are the collared doves, whoo-ooing, it is the repetitiveness of it that drives me insane!! :o  :o  :o
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

lol Doris, i have two wood pigeons that think they are the backing singers to my blackbird, they could set up a band between them  ;D

Carol

Well, as a matter of fact, our robins up this way don't even sleep at all.  I have been outside with the bird feed after logging off here at about midnight! and still hear the Robins talking to each other singing from the trees.  They are making sure the other Robins know its their territory so they have to sing round the clock!!!!  Good job I have good glazing me thinks.

Well it is 2.15am and I can't sleep... just popped to backdoor but  my blackbird is not yet awake!! Elsa  my King Charles Cavalier often wake me about 4.30am for a visit to the garden and usually my lovely blackbird is sitting on my neighbours roof singing his heart out. They have decided to nest in my conifers only trouble is Elsa hates all birds and chases  up the garden after them if they are having a drink from bird bath. She (Elsa) was looking up in to the conifers the other day and barking like mad, when I looked there was a baby blackbird who seemed to be on its first outing from the nest sitting just above the dogs head, I made her come indoors as I was worried in case the baby fell. Next time I have visitors I won't drink as much wine maybe that is causing my sleeless night (Never mind it was enjoyable!!!!)

Marianne

We have lots of birds too.  For the moment, an army of pigeons, sparrows, 2 or 3 robins and blackbirds all sing together and wake us up way before our alarm goes off.  It's their way of saying "Get out of bed and Feed us".

The pheasant also joins in occasionally and the food disappears so very quickly !  They are raising their young right now.

I don't mind being woken up as my "normal" time is about 6am.  However, today, I am definitely going to buy one of those small bird feeders - those pigeons are costing me a little fortune!

Carol : I really hope your blackbird got away with his life.  Sparrowhawks, although part of our native wildlife, do take a rather large part of pigeons, blackbirds and starlings.  >:( But that is nature.
Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.
