Start of the financial year (April) privately owned site. We pay total of £50/year for the paddock, then split between the 10 plot holders.

Plot holders officially have to pay their rent to our association by 1st Oct, although in reality this does not happen as bills tend to be sent out a bit late.

The association does not pay any rent to the council, instead they receive a small grant, this happens on the 1st April.

We pay by end of March - which coincides with our AGM..but we have nothing to do with the council - we run our own association.

The same as others 1st Jan.

If January suits you and the committee collect the rent in January, put it into the association account and pay the council in October. You may as well get what little intrest it makes.
I dont see the council being bothered about when you collect but they will be about when it has to paid.

Ours is paid in October.  We got it changed 3 years ago.  Reason being, when it was paid in April, by the time you finished chasing people who never paid and had to serve notice, it was June before the plot could be reallocated and the weeds were usually several feet high by this stage.  Allocating in October means if we have to serve notice we can still allocate whilst the plot is dormant and newbies have a couple of months before the sowing and planting season to prepare the allotment for how they want it, instead of trying to clear, sow, dig and plant at the same time.  it can all be a bit daunting for newbies so slow time preparation is a good thing.  This has certainly been to the benefit of the site and it now remains relatively clean.  October is also the time when plotholders tend to give up their allotment, after they have harvested the majority of crops.  Works well for us and I would recommend it.
