please don't mention wind  ;D

however if you will allow a planter in the greenhouse (still standing) then I might just bother myself  ;D but was just hoping that maybe you could've upped the challenge to, e.g., planting the same spud and checking results around the country cos otherwise I know exactly what the results will be for me  :P

Hmmm - it will never work on my cold clay soil, even with prewarming.  But what have we got to lose?  I'm in  :)

Digging up time is the weekend of 4th/5th of June, Tonybloke and Trevor D and I can't find it but it may be 1066's Birthday

Yup that's the nearest weekend to my Bday  :)  Think I'll try planting some in a pot / planter, my clay soil is so wet and cold at the mo....

Looking forward to my spuds  ;D

BoardStupid

I have been collecting a huge pile of horse poo over winter. I guess a couple of feet covered with a few feet of soil should be nicely warm by the time I get back from seeing mum. Plus I've got a couple of secret weapons from work that might help  ;)

Thinking rocket as they've been chitting a little while now
If it's not on fire it's a software problem

Poppy Mole

Right.. spuds bought & that was ALL I bought at the garden centre - a major first!!

gypsy

OK I will try. Have got some Pentland Javelin chitting, but have also got some Swift. Not sure which to try. I will use an old black dustbin that is full of home made compost. It is in the back garden, so I can put a warm blanket over it at night and look after it. Maybe a spare quilt too...

Last year we had a late frost, it got all my earlies at the allotment.

Haven't tried this before. Do we take photos or weigh the potatoes?

Robert_Brenchley

The royal connection goes back to Henry VIII, which is all right if you like dictators I suppose.

Mortality

Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

cornykev

If u have clay soil try in pots, tubs or bags, I will be doing both again
Photos if u like and weighing is a good idea so u can check results against others ( that should keep Cal off my back 4 a while )
If u have never grown earlies then just get a 10 pack from the £ shop or wilkos RP, I'm going with Rocket, Swift is another fast grower ( I think there's one called Chariot its very sweet )  ;)
Poo is good, hmm secret weapons  ???
Is that where the Winston spuds get their name from Robert   ::)
Cal, Cal, cal where shall I start    greenhouses are a no no
Getting everybody to buy the same spuds, :(  now there's a challenge on it's own  ::)
I think peeps want to buy the spuds they like and suit their needs
The whole point is it's a bit of fun and nice to see DIFFERENT spuds growing in different parts of the country under different conditions with different results, did I mention different at all  ;)
Lets see the different ways people warm the soil, keep off the frosts and condition the soil
Once again it's a bit of fun, so don't plant too many, just what u can spare, and no NEGATIVITY, or the yellow card will be coming out.   :-* :-* :-*
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

cornykev

Thats about thirty runners so far and I forgot to say there is 15 weeks of growing time, so get that soil warmed sharpish, I've just done mine.     ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

calendula

sob  :'(

I did mine in the greenhouse last year and you didn't ban me to the naughty step then so can I have my windmill please otherwise I'm not playing  :P

and I'm using the sun to warm my soil, so there  ;D

cornykev

You cheated last year,  :o  right that's the windmill confiscated, come back at the end of the season and you can have it back, it's going in the naughty draw with Tones catapult and Borlotti's racket.   ;D ;D ;D    ;)
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
