Have lost half a dozen... to slugs from the 300+ we pricked out, they seem particularly fond of the Charlie Green...   :-\

Mowhay

Excellent set of photos for potting on tonybloke, these are mine about ready for the same

cheerfulness

Those were great pictures, Tonybloke. Really handy as I'd never thought to use the pot as a mould. Timely too as I'm potting mine on today.  ;D

From the pics I thought the pots were in the floor of your GH but it must be your potting tray.lol. You have a look and you will see how I made the mistake.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Helpful stuff.

Here's my start. Too leggy for 3 1/2" pots, I know, but they had a 'careless' start!

And I like to get a 'transportable' rootball before moving on.

The pots, BTW, were bought in 1975 when I thought that I might do Market Gardening.

Blimey, yours are in already! :o

Mine are growing away well in 3 1/2" pots, but I'm nowhere near ready to put them in their final places t......haven't got the room in my greenhouse yet! ;D
And I've grown way too many as usual ::)....good job we have a plant sale at the Open Day.... ;D

Good job I looked at that last sentence before I posted it or we would be having a pant sale.... ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Saved me starting a new thread, Tony.

So far as I can see, even as large as yours are, no flowers?? Against all teaching.

But who does get flowers at the recommended 6-8" - & HOW??

Deb P

The only time I've got flowers before planting up was when I ran out of greenhouse room and left some plants in 3 1/2 " pots....the grew tall and lanky then flowered, presumably due to stress! Does it make sense to stress plants into flowering before a final planting up?? I put mine out when the roots have filled the pot but before becoming potbound....always worked for me but not 'by the book'! ::)

That's one attraction I don't think we need on the day...  :o

Always worked - yes, I get a good return, but does it not mean that the first truss sets lower - like Shirley - & that's more productive?

Otherwise, why do all references go on about it?

Tee Gee

These are mine as yesterday;

They were sown 26th Feb, pricked out 13th March and grown in good light at around 40°F.

All from own seed!

Varieties include Ailsa Craig, Vanessa from proprietory sources, and Feurta which I got from a tomato grown in Feurtaventura, Calahonda sourced the same way from Southern Spain. Tatton from a tasting tomato exhibition I visited at last years Tatton show............scraped the seed out before eating the sample....it tasted good so hopefully  my ones will be equally as good.

tim

V healthy, TG - but no flowers yet??

tonybloke

They have got flowers, but not open yet!! ( I'll take a close-up for you)  ;)
