The mystery of what really happened to Crystal Palace is revealed.... the "fire" was just a government cover up.......

Quotevariety's ildi are developing yellow  n greying leaves. wonder is it mould.  or early blight?

they are in pots.

What type of compost have you used?

You may have a magnesium defficiency; http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Data/Soil-Magnesium/Soil-Magnesium.htm

Quotealso have another plant which has developed speckling leaves ( faded  n becoming slightly see through.
i removed the damaged leaves..... but maybe i should just chuck them?
this is on a red pear variety.

Have you warered them overhead?

Droplets of water can magnify the effects of the sun and burn/scorch the leaves.

Quotei'm beginning to wish i'd stuck to moneymaker and gardener's delight.
they are in an unheated greenhouse.

Who knows you mught have had the same problem with these!

they are in good compost mix.(cant remember the name) n they are about same height as shirlton's one's in pic above.  (not good with measurements haha).  I dont think they could be magnesium deficient as have a good compost with a plant boost mix added( had magnesium in it and also have some from home compost bin..  I grew them from seed, and have them transplanted into 9 inch pots.
i think the second illness could be due to water damage, they are on a shelf below plants and think there might be a constant dripping down on them in the greenhouse.

It was only the first mouldy leaves on the one plant that i was concerned about.  - I had a full grown plant die on me towards end of last season due to blight.
the plant isnt in that soil ( its in pot) but I didnt change the soil in the greenhouse- should i have?

Cuttting bags? Nothing 'usual' in this house! But getting too old for clever ideas.

Produce? I'm going to check this year. 79 plants.

Later  - not my year. Damping off or other ailments? Never. Not me!

Just looked in the lean-to..................

Make that 78!!

Progress?-over 200 sold but still plenty more in need of a home.

But I have now planted out a few for myself

tim

Which have you kept for eating, Stephan??

cleo

That`s always the problem Tim-I only have room for about 25? plants.

It`s a balance between growing for next year`s seed and my personal favourites.

Black Russian is always there though as is Sweet Million, and since I found some `Blaby` hiding under the staging I`m keeping a couple.

I go on and on about Brandywine and Caspian Pink but the truth is-I have taken a year out to grow others-Oh well some suppliers rely on us buying new seed now and again?

reddyreddy

Blimey Tim, what do you do with them all?!!!  :o

tim

Eat, share, freeze, sell.

Stephan - does BW really need hand pollinating?

cleo

does BW really need hand pollinating?

Tim-if that means Brandywine-not as far as I know and have grown them on and off for 16 years now
