Lord Steve

Hi everyone. I hope this is the right place to post this. I just wanted to say hello ;D

I was on the BBC site making suggestions about how they could improve the message boards and was told that A4A already had those features. So here I am!

I look forward to joining in here and getting to know you better. I have a confession to make - I don't own an allotment  :(. But please don't hate me  ;D. I live in a terraced house in London and have a tiny garden just 20ft x 16ft. Until this year I have never gardened at all. It was the domain of the ex. For the past four years (after she moved out) the garden was untended in any way. The weeds were rampant and the shrubs were overgrown. There were no flowers apart from a peony! But this year I got the bug! I chucked in loads of annuals in May with the help of my new g/f and through the summer I added some perennials, cut back the old shrubs and bought some new ones. It is all a bit disjointed at the moment, but I have great plans for next year!! I think it may be a "cottage prairie"  ;D

One thing - I see that people post their photos here. Can anyone tell me how to do that. I do not know anything about Photobucket etc.

Cheers

Steve

Welcome Steve! You will find you are not alone in being a non-allotment holder! We are a pretty friendly bunch here and don't bite! (well, not too hard! ;D)  Glad you have gotten the gardening bug, though your bank balance will hate you! We shall soon have you growing veges in pots and in your borders! ;D
Photobucket is fairly easy to use, though you may get suggestions from others on other sites that are easier. The way I do it is, copy the photo I want to post to my pictures album, go into photobucket and where it says add picture, browse until you find yours, then click submit, it will add it to your album. When it is there click edit above the photo, and you can resize it to fit your post. I normally do 50% of original, then click on resize, this should take you back to your album with the photo. Highlight IMG under the piccie, then copy that, post it into your message on A4All, and that should be it! ;D Sorry, all sounds a bit long winded, but once you get the hang of it it becomes, like most things easy! ;D Hope this helps!  :D Hi there Steve,

It's OK you don't have to have an allotment to join in here - I don't - and they haven't kicked me off the forums yet.  ::)

Hope you enjoy meeting the crew and welcome aboard the good ship A4A.

Hi there Steve, I'm just the opposite have an allotment (with Mr W) :D but no garden  :( however I get round that by squeezing in as many flowers as I can on the allotment but mostly perennials and bulbs as well as some shrubs and a buddliah which has grown into a 15 ft tree and MUST  be cut back!

You'll be able to get good advice on anything here - even Life!

Hi Steve, welcome to the fun.  I don't have a lottie either, just 3 raised beds and the rest of the garden used as a football pitch.  I love this site, it becomes quite addictive as posts are added so often.  The help and advice given on here is wonderful, everyone is so helpful.

Welcome Steve, ;) sit yourself down help yourself to a nice cuppa there’s some clean cups on the sideboard and home made cookies on the table, :P there will be a few more A4Aers along in a minute to welcome you so be sure to top the kettle up with water and leave it on a low light. :D
You’ll enjoy it here very cosy company but don’t get too settled as we all have some gardening to do. 8)

Have fun. :)

Roy. ;D ;D ;D

Lord Steve

Thanks everyone - how cosy. I like it here already!

Actually, seeing all the wonderful things which you all grow is not only making me hungry, but also inspiring me to think of growing some veg next year.

As you say, time for a cuppa  :)

Welcome Steve  :)

I don't have a lottie either, I don't even have a garden even! Just 2 small balconies where I grew quite a bit of stuff this summer.

Seriously addicted now though, and going to get a lottie at some point before spring next year.

I knew nothing before I started in march this year, and have learned so much from all the wonderful folks here.

I use MSN for posting photos, if you have trouble using photobucket, I can try to do my instructions for MSN for you.
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

Mrs Ava

Welcome Steve.  Have a cuppa....do you have time to have a cuppa with all that gardening to do!  ;)  I foolishly have 2 plots, 2.5 sprogs, Ava (my better half) and a garden....and possibly am on the verge of an exhausted breakdown!  :o  I post far to many photos and bore everyone rigid and I use www.imageshack.us.  This isn't a permanent photo album site, so after 12 months your pics will be deleted, but by then I will have posted a trillion more, so the first ones will be out of date.  Cor, you can tell it is raining, can't shut me up!  ;D

Lord Steve

You have caught me out EJ - I must be a fair-weather gardener, because I took one look outside today and decided that whatever needs doing can wait until later!  :) Actually, there does not seem to be too much clearing up to do, and I think I am in reasonable shape with the garden. Well, I call it a garden - more like a terrace and a border! Thanks for the welcome. I am going to try and upload some of my photos to PhotoBucket to see if I can get the technology to work. Fingers crossed. Cheers. Steve
