This happened last year actually ... it's not my birthday until 19th September but any old excuse to make a fortnight of it.

Many thanks for my many happy returns. Let the celebrations BEGIN  ;D

I'm going to Whitby on me birthday with Alfie (like we did last year .. creature of habit)

don't forget to treat yourselves to fish and chips at the Magpie Cafe, and take a big hammer to go looking for ammonites  and JET on the beach (but don't get cut off by the tide)  ;D

Trixiebelle

The 1st thing we do is get fish & chips from the Magpie, sit in the bandstand (because it's usually raining!) and then hoik hammers and chisels from Whitby to Runswick!

I've got a timetable of tides, a beginner's guide to fossils, a metal detector and a corkscrew  ;D

Porth Mulgrave was the place for me. Doesn't Runswick have an insanely steep hill? We lost our dog there for several hours. In the end found him sitting next to the car, looking very sorry for himself, but not half as sorry as we had been

also look out for agate and jasper etc

Trixiebelle

Runswick DOES have an insanely steep hill! Even the descent from the carpark to the beach has it's risks if you're on rollerskates!

But it does have fantastic cliffs/fossil-hunting possibilities. Alf found loads there & we saw a German team with a HUGE ammonite coming back from the far cliffs.

Where is Porth Mulgrave?

don't forget to treat yourselves to fish and chips at the Magpie Cafe,
And don't forget to add an extra hour to lunch time for the queue to get in ;D ;D  I am too impatient to queue for fish & chips there so always pick the chippie with the shortest queue when at Whitby. 8)
