Allotments 4 All

Good afternoon all.

Having had a bit of a browse, this looks like the most appropriate place to pop up & say hi. . . I feel a bit like a stalker otherwise  ;D

I've followed the renegades over from the beeb, although I didn't post there either (something to do with registering about two years ago & promptly forgetting my password  ::)  ).

At the moment I have a tiny garden as we live in a victorian terrace in Leeds which only has a 10 ft x 8ft concrete yeard. Still I've got quite a good show going in assorted terracota pots. Quite the envy of the neighbours when everything's flowering.  ;D

I have been trying to get an allotment for a little while, but it appears that the ones five minutes from us are all taken, despite a large number of them being very overgrown & obviously uncared for. Am currently trying to get hold of the man at the council to find out the latest situation.

Anyway, that's a quick intro to me - may actually start butting in on your chat now, although I will warn you I am a complete novice  :P

Don't loiter, come in and join the hubub.  Just watch out for Eileen, she will try to convince you she is the only sane one, but nutty as a fruit cake!  ;)

Definately get on to the council about a plot, it is such a shame that so many people that post here are on waiting lists, and yet their local sites have ununsed allotments.  Seems such a waste!

Hi Mrs Gumboot - I'm an ex-OTGFer (BBC). I've only got a tiny garden and no allotment (yet) but you will be made welcome I can assure you! Don't hang about when joining in otherwise you won't get a word in edgeways!!!

Hi Mrs Gumboot, haven't heard that word in a while as everyone I know here calls them Wellies! I'm one of the unlucky ones stuck on a waiting list whilst watching the weeds grow higher and higher at the plot on my want list. Anyway on the bright side, by the time we get our plots we'll be experts and know exactly where to start with all the advice that we learn from the lovely people at this forum.  ;D

Hi Mrs G and welcome! I'm also an ex-Beeber who found this niche after Auntie knocked our fence down! (Over the Garden Fence).

Hey there, complete novice to gardening and have found here very friendly and helpful. I will make no bones about the fact I am as barmy as a loony bin regular. But don't worry I don't bite if I've had my medication. Watch out for val as she's vicious with that whip. ;D ;D :-X

I used to live in a similar house in Leeds and managed to get a plot just round the corner (was in Chapel Allerton). Lovely fertile soil - but horse-tail-nightmare was tricky.

Mrs Gumboot, you are no longer the newest newcomer - that would be me!

I got the key to my allotment in May, and, since it's so tiny (12 sq m), managed to clear the whole thing and start planting in just a week. The plot is a 3 min. walk from my family's flat, and there's lots of communal stuff: Toolshed with a huge selection of tools, water butts and pipes, apples, rhubarb, some herbs, redcurrants, blackcurrants, gooseberries and raspberries.

It's been a good summer, getting to know our neighbours, figuring out how to move all the strawberry plants I found lurking in the wilderness of the plot, buying lots and lots of seeds. And now. mainly harvesting and eating...

Welcome Merete! Guess you have a fun time ahead of you. I would love an allotment that size - the ones near us are huge, but can be shared apparently. When Little Plocket starts school I might well get one...

Sounds as though you've got off to a really good start with your lottie. Hope you can post some pics to let us all have a look see.

Mrs G your garden is about the same size as mine and me being a plantaholic it is grossly over planted, :-[ ah well out with the machete again. :o
