Nice-mine are not so far on. I`m also growing `Valdor` and a new one to me `Wynona`

And a tip for anyone growing them-cold within reason is not a problem, damp is a killer.

redimp

Mine totally failed to germinate this year.  Going to try a third ::) lot under glass soon.

I have some small Lollo Rossa still growing outside without protection... and some Bronze Arrow to follow on. My winter density are still in the tray because the toms won't finish!
::)

antipodes

I have some nice lettuce growing, some cut and come again, for now it is out in the open
Also i planted some red scarole that seems to be doing ok.
- should I cover it once it gets frosty? and what with? plastic bottles?
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

Ours (Winter Density, Merveille de Quatre Saisons and Reine de Glace) were all sown 3 weeks ago under enviromesh on hoops. Now getting to the thinning out stage.

Cocade / Bronze Arrow which did well with an October sowing last year was sown at the same time but failed to germinate. No idea why not. It's got milder again so may try re-sowing.

I've just sowed some chinese leaves and mouli radish, will try some valdour lettuce, they didn't come up, or were eaten..I'm trying coffee grounds to keep the slugs off  ;D

Eating mine. Have got Winter Density and All Year Round.  I have nearly completed a year of having fresh lettuce every week. I have lettuce growing in a green house and four cold frames as well as outside with plastic bottle protectors.

Question: I thought lettuce bolted on day length but have managed to grow them throughout the year - how come?

saddad

I thought heat was the main factor in bolting? I'm probably wrong... but like Japanese onions they may have been selected out as not being light sensitive..
???

manicscousers

yes, like saddad, I thought it was heat  :)
