She sent my the Jerusalem Artichokes shortly before she made the great leap.  They are reaching for the stars!

Brilliant! How have you supported them? Mine keep toppling over.

Mine are still standing, albeit with a bit of a lean to port..
They need staking firmly at the ends of the rows... proper fence posts and wire along the length. Tuber production benefits from a good earthing up/mulching of the stems...

Mine are not that high but are rather limited my being in a couple of large containers.

Do they flower???

Yes but later mid Oct usually... Some suggest cutting off at shoulder height to stop them flowering and increase tuber production, never bother myself..

Mine have outgrown their 8' canes by about 18".

One fell over but has survived.

When do we harvest ??  I want SS to see the flowers first though.

How do you know when there ready?

Not all jerusalems flower, and those that do don't necessarily flower every year.

As the stems die back the energy stored in them goes back down into tubers (so don't cut them off until they are pretty dead). Once the stems have died right back you are into the harvest period.    They usually keep well underground - we dug up our last in March.

I have noticed that some of the leafs were dying back but i think they might have just been dry.
