RAIN ...........................got a phone call last night from a fellow lottie holder............bit of a problem he said...................
as people may know...we have plots right on the side of the river.............all this recent rain has made watering unnessecery.....but last night....the river broke its banks and more or less flooded the entire site.
the main paths were at least knee high in fast flowing river water...........and most of the lower plots....mine included...were under at least three to four foot of water.
we shot up to the plots but were unable to do a great deal..............but at least my plot looked just like my neighbours..........lol...............the weeds had dissapeared at least!
got some photos and will post them later.................
hoping my shed and greenhouse are still there..........it was filling up nicely at 7 last night........and starting to pull thru like a train...............just gotta feed the babe and then me and him are off for an early morning stroll with the pushchair!

It makes them wonder what you are up to.

Biscombe

Poor you! Feeling for you :(

wilko

Hi MM I'm in Doncaster too,
We had the police knock on our door about 7pm, they told us we had about half an hour before the Don broke it's banks, and said we should evacuate  :-[

I wasn't going to do that, I just moved my treasures upstairs and waited,
OH, me and the dogs walked down to the river, it was inches from coming over

high tide was 10.30pm, and thank god nothing happened, but I had a bit of a restless night though.

so sorry about your plots.

I wonder how many of our veg turn out to be aquatic !  ;)
Life is to short !!!

cornykev

Blimey I didn't realise its been that bad, good luck on the salvage mate, but I  bet the only thing that survives is your namesake. :( ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Jeannine

Oh so sorry, rescue seeds here aplenty when you are ready XXX Jeannine

If it goes down as quickly as it rose big plants like Potatoes can survive... at least you get a free top dressing of silt... probably mixed with sewage... good crops next time!!!
:-X

Oh no, that msu be heartbreaking. And here I was worrying about losing some seeds! The weekend forecast for Yorkshire is looking much drier (just hung the washing out!), so hopefully it will go down quickly.

manicscousers

thanks folks......................cant get near yet to check the damage.............went up this afternoon but it didnt look good.............nearly all the neighbouring site is under water now..............and access to ours is via submarine!
we are aware of the risks of flooding.but it very rarly happens.....just this time weve been hit with torrential downpours and even the main drains are stuggling to cope.
as wilco said...evacuations were in progress last night........all along the river........i may have lost crops but its nothing to compare with some of the folks who loose stuff in their house!
when it all goes back to normal i wonder if the fish in the river will show prefrence for different bait.....now they are eating the produce of us lotty folk..........lol
can fish eat strawberrys?
are tench fond of turnip?
perch eating potatos?
carp devouring carrots?
and i can just imagine the dace dancing around the wifes daliahs........lol

pics below show mine and the next door plots last night!

ps............all the plots are covered in raised beds..........cant even see them!

Do let us all know if/what you need though, and we'll see what we can do  ;)
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

flossie

I do hope that it drains quickly so that you can salvage some of it.  Let us know what you need and will try to help

Trevor_D

Aaghh! And I thought I had problems with slugs!?!

Hope the waters subside as fast as they flooded.
