I have been offered a trailerful of mushroom compost. Is this good generally or only for specific crops?

I got 30 bags year before last, used it for spreading on beds in the autumn.  Dug it in springtime, it's fantastic.  My son didn't go a bundle on in for the garden, though.  I think he's just fussy.

Sometimes mushroom compost has a lot of lime in it, so it may not be wise to use it on lime-hating plants.

That's true, here's the link to where I got mine.  BTW, I buy mushrooms from them at our farmers' market - they're delish  :P :P

We use it extensively.  I haven't yet found anything that dislikes it.  Potatoes love it!

Dig it in or use as a mulch.

Emagggie

Thanks all, I'll take up the offer  ;D

asbean, just had a good look at Petersmushrooms site. Don't I wish I lived nearer, but I have printed off recipes though. I really fancy mushroom pudding to go with beef stew :P  This weather is comfort food weather. ;D

Fork

On the few occasions that I have had some mushroom compost,I winter dug and then spread it all over the plot and let the elements do the rest.

The soil was lovely when I came to rotovate later on.
You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose

A guy at work swears by it, he thickly spreads it the the late Autumn and as Fork says just leaves it to the elements, he reckons he hardly gets a weed come through.  :o ??? ;D ;D ;D

green with envy here, maggie  ;D

Emagggie

Ha! Well, compost now piled up on plot and as I can't be sure how old it is (I had advice from another source too), I shall leave it there to fester for a few weeks and then mulch like Billyo...oh you lucky, lucky veg ;D
Thanks again peeps, and Manics, if I could share with you I would. ;)

Enjoy the mushroom pudding, Emaggie.  The chap who runs the PeterMushrooms stall at the farmers' market is lovely.  He manages to make the most delicious cooked mushroom filling for rolls, while at the same time serving customers and restocking his counter.  :) :)
