I am sure I read somewhere that there are scanners which can be used to scan 33mm slides. Am I right or was it just a false memory. Anyone any experience?

Now if that piece of equipment doesn't exist then someone's slipping up. I must have hundreds of them from the 60's and 70's. I would think Kodak a good starting place, Eric.

Yes that is quite right, I've had a film scanner for several years and it recently packed up (cost £190). Have just replaced it with a Canon Canoscan 4400F (£80) , it scan four slides at a time or six frames of a film strip. I've got getting on for 2,000 slides. I shan't do all of them though.

I've been looking at these for some time. There are dedicated ones from Nikon and Minolta but they are quite pricy. Money no object I'd buy the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED - a mere £800!

The Canon CanoScans get good reviews. I suspect their top of range 9950F (around £250) is about to be replaced because the two below have recently been replaced by the 4400F and 8600F (£140) so I'm hanging on at the moment.

Anyone know of a reliable supplier who will do this for me?  I have a couple of hundred slides found amoungst my dad's stuff & I'd like to transfer them to an e-mailable format.

Time is an issue for me, so haven't got round to even setting up the projector to look at them properly yet
is it in the sale?

30p for a standard scan is the lowest price I could find!  Rises to 60p for serious retouching, dirt removal etc.

Can't vouch for them but they offer a free trial on up to 4 slides

This is something that I have also considered on and off for the last couple of years. My own research also suggests that the Canon range is due for a revamp, so I am biding my time for the moment.

I have quite a number of slides, mainly from the late 1970s / early 1980s. I still have a working slide projector and screen, but they are in the loft, so they might as well be on the moon! ::)

I find these two review sites helpful when trying to make up my mind. They are both USA based, so the pricing is nothing to go by, but the reviews are still valid.

I use a HP scanner at school that scans slides (one at a time) - was nothing like that price.  I will find out more and get back.  Do you meen 35mm?

On an old flatbed scanner, I had an attachment for scanning slides, it was a small fluorescent lamp with a white diffuser in front of that. The slide was on the front of that face down on the scanner.

Try knocking up something similar, put the slide on the scanner, a couple of sheets of tracing paper on that and then shine a fairly bright light from above (a small desk lamp should do it).

I would give it a go, but I don't have any slides.  :(

That was a useful link Redclanger. I like the video preview on the PC World site. It's much easier to get a feel for things if you can see them in use.

I have an Epson (640U) scanner at the moment which I have had for almost 6 years now and it's still going strong, albeit it is a little slow. Perhaps I could 'accidentally' drop it to justify getting a new one.  ;)
