;D This is probably an old subject but does anyone wee on their compost I heard it was a good activator. When I mentioned this on my site they just laughed that no one would eat their veggies if they did. Wee have a toilet but I know some sites don't, so I have had a few goes, when the OH heard what I'd done she said don't let the neighbours on the site see you, she had visions of me standing there aiming into the compost bin, no in a bottle I explained, I think she was taking the piss. :-X ;D ;D

all of ours, when we are on the allotment, that is, goes either on the compost heap or in the leaf mould composter, like bob flowerdew says " why waste all that sterile free nitogen rich , something else I can't remember, down the toilet, he reccommends it goes straight on the heap but we also have a bucket  ;D

Mrs Ava

Yup, I pee in a bucket - in the privacy of my shed of course  :-[, and then the lot gets tipped onto my compost heap.  We have no loos on sight, so everyone pees on their compost heaps!! ;D

Robert_Brenchley

Don't waste it, use it. Pouring all that good nitrogenous fertilliser down the toilet would be a terrible shame.

Emagggie

I'd have to get a curtain for my shed window, they'd think I'd moved in. ;D

I think wee is a bit too acid to put on the composter. But I have used it dilute, direct on the soil. I think that the soil is better at dealing with the acidity.

Robert_Brenchley

I put mine in the compost all the time in summer, especially when I put in anything at all fibrous. It makes it all rot a lot faster.

ACE

As I like to live dangerously, I always go in the nettle patch. Keeps them down a bit.

cornykev

;) Hope you use a dock leave afterwoods ACE. :'( :o :) ;) :D ;D

Animals go where they want, rabbits in the farmers field - on his veg that ends up in the supermarket then on your table. So whats the difference? My 3yr old thinks its brill cos I let him wee where and when he likes in the lottie.

Just do it and dont tell OH! :D

All the time... and we have flushing toilets and I live on site... before my lactose intolerance was diagnosed I sometimes had to do a little more than that..

Urine ph should be in the 6.5 to 7 range, if yours is very acid you really ought to see a doctor, acidity of the body is associated with many nasty illnesses.

The pH of the urine can be affected by:
preservatives you eat
pollutants you breathe
stress you encounter
the food you eat
how much water you drink
the amount of pathogens in your system
how much rest you receive
all the biochemical activities going on in your body.

PS. Urine is very good indeed for the compost heap, the nitrogen helps bacteria to break down woody stuff

... and to add to Merry Tiller's impressive list, drugs you take such as antibiotics (the rare occasion I'm on a course of antibots is the only time I'd avoid adding pee to the compost.)

Mrs Ava

I have lovely net curtains up at my window Emaggie  ;D.  It is rare for anyone but old Jack to be around at the same time as me, and he whistles loudly to warn me of his impending arrival.  :D

Well if you can have curtains EJ, so can I! Too many  people too close for comfort around me at present. ;D

I have to say many's the time I've been desperate and gone home......

The fact the the pH of urine is 6.5 is not the problem. The problem occurs when bacteria break down organic molecules in pee (such as urea) into organic acids (uric acid).

cornykev

;D :D ;) :)  So it looks like wee all do it then, I'll tip it on the compost but not straight into the soil. I'm also posher than EJ and Maggie I have drapes not mere curtains.lol    :) ;) :D ;D :-*
