Ceri

No, not plotting, but smoking.  After 23 years, with only two pregnancy breaks I have finally made the sensible decision and at 7.00pm on Sunday my hubby and I went from 40 a day each to none at all.
I know this has nothing to do with plotting, but the more people I tell, the more embarassing it would be to fail!!

Muddy_Boots

Very best of luck Ceri.  Is great that you are both doing it and can support each other.  First three/four weeks are the worst then after that it gradually gets easier.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you  :D

Wow Ceri, 40 a day each  :o  With all that cash you will be saving you will be going on a luxury cruise this time next year  ;D

Good luck, Ava and I both quit, but not at the same time  :-\ however, we both agree, we feel a zillion times better for it so we both wish you both heaps and heaps of luck and are sending you gallons of cyber will power!

cccccccccyyyyyyyybbbbbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeeeerrrrrr ;D

busy_lizzie

Good on ya, Ceri! and well done.  I don't smoke, but my Husband does and I would love him to give up.  You will benefit in so many ways but mainly in your health, which is the most important thing. You can do it - one day at a time is the best method I believe.  ;D
love and best wishes, busy_lizzie

nice one ceri! good luck to you both!!

Mimi

Good luck Ceri, you can do it.  I gave up 20 years ago but other half is still a smoker Phewwwww.  You will feel so much better eventually.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

tim

Well done.

Once you've done that, there is NO reason to start again. You now KNOW you have the stregth of mind. Wonderful that you have each other's support.
And you'll no longer smell like BBQs. Keep busy and look forward to your pensions.

You may have to compensate -  gave up when I was 58 - so that's free for 25 years. Now drink 50% more, but don't have to redecorate so often!! And  haven't dropped another cigarette on my lap whilst driving!!
Good luck = Tim

Gardengirl

Hi Ceri - great that you and hub have made the decision together.  I wish you both the very best of luck - I am sure you can do it.  I don't smoke, but my husband does and I wish he would give up.  Keep posting on progress so we can all give you the moral support that you will need. :)
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Mrs Ava

oooooooooo Tim, I did that when I was learning to drive.  Had a rather....friendly...relaxed driving instructor who felt learning to drive and smoke at the same time were very important, however, I hit the indicator with the end of the ciggy, burnt my leg, and a nice big hole in his seat  :-[.  Never felt comfortable smoking whilst driving after that.

YAY TO CERI!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Wicker

Well done, Ceri, it has to be the right decision and you can help each other through it!

Just realised that I put a Gaelic message on Mimi's birthday thread which probably should be a toast to you and your other half - so at the risk of repeating myself .......

Just like to add my support.I gave up Sept 1st 2002 and felt the benefit within a couple of months as i'm sure that you will.

With all the savings, think how much you could spend on the plot - more seeds, tools, etc...............

Ceri

thank you all for your kind support - it really does help.  Each day I work out what I've saved and what I can buy for the plot with it!  It's day 3 today, which I'm reliably informed is often the worst day - but after that it gets better - thank goodness.

Moggle

Well done Ceri, and good luck keeping it up  :)
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

tim

A selfless thought - it will probably be other folk who will benefit more than you?? = Tim

ALL POWER TO YOUR ELBOW YOU CAN DO IT, TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME. HE SAID BE STRONG ON DAYS3 4 5 6 THEY ARE TRUELY TRYING

    GOOD LUCKTO YOU BOTH
KEEP US POSTED WE CAN ALL GIVE YOU LOTS OF SUPPORT :D.

Ceri

thanks again everyone - day 3 was survived but it was a rough old day for hubby and myself.  My husband admitted last night that he was really close to going to a little newsagents near where he was working and ask if he could buy a 'single' like we did when we were kids!  It was only the potential humiliation that stopped him I think!!
Actually beginning to feel physically better, which is a great psychological help, if you know what I mean! I will never start again just because the pain of quitting is too much!

rosebud

KEEP GOING CERI  WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU  :o JUST DON`T TRIP OVER US ;D  GOOD ON YER GIRL. :) ;) :D ;D

tina

 :D :D
Well Done!!!!

My husband and I gave up seven years ago, and we know how hard it is!!!

(Actually, the chewing gum habit that he developed was nearly as annoying as the cigs!)

It does get easier, just hang on in there!

Tina

Good for you Ceri and OH (other half) keep it up or you'll have us to answer to!!

Seriously - well done - each day is one further away from the dreaded weed.

Eileen.
