Why did you use the name you did on this forum?

I remember a while back, Legless told the story behind her name. Now I think it would be nice if the ones that want to explain their choice.

Mine speaks for itself. I had wanted to use 'Dutchess' but I was told it was used already (it wasn't). When we lived in Alaska we had a two way radio in the car (don't want to be stuck at minus 40 C and not be able to call anyone, this was before the mobile telephones) so I was given the 'handle' Dutchess by friends.

That's my story, who follows?

okay...so I am totally unoriginal....Emma Jane, cos it's my name!   ;D  On the motorbike forums I use I am Mrs Ava, purely because my hubby is Ava Banana.  ;D

I was just showing off, my sign in name is the Botanic latin for my surname.

Mine is not very clever really, I thought it better than sweet william cos I am a girlie! Plus of course I happen to love Doris Pinks, and my mentor gardener, who was my favorite Aunt, and gave me my love of the soil and everything nature, was called Doris. (Sad to say she died a few years ago, so now I use you lot to get my gardening questions answered!)

Beer Belly? cdchater? djstig? Tenuse? Vixter? Ciderself? Rewsal? Foggy? Piglet? Rdak? Palefire? Hot potato? Cool carrot? Tenuse? etc. etc. What made you and others choose your names?

I think mine is pretty self explanatory .I breed birds as another of my hobbies budgies being amongst them.Yes  Dottie P I too have pictures in my mind of what I think people look like.I wonder how close to the real thing they are.

Palustris is latin for Marsh. My cognomen. (Look that one up) ;D

I chose my name simply because i love all roses and i am a budding computer beginner well i think iam  truth
be known i should be called  :D   GO SLOW AND STOP.

Hi Eric, I didn't really have to 'look' it up in a book. I've got this neat little gadget in the pc, if I double click any word, the translation and usage drops out of this tiny window in the corner of the screen. If I click a Dutch word, the English drops out and v.v. Sad thing is that it's very limited, couldn't afford the good dictionary. Cognomen drops out as family name or nickname.

My drop-down dictionary came up with 'no results found' Hugh, how can that be?

If you "Google" Palefire, you'll get completely the wrong impression of me! ;) I had never heard of the book when I took the moniker, although I have since looked in to it and I may eventually read it. As far as I knew, "Palefire" was a character in a fantasy; this was read by a gothic band member and woven into the lyrics or name of one of their songs. Now, I could be completely wrong about this because I was rather inebriated at the time of the conversation that revealed this! :o I am a gothic-ish person and the name stuck in my memory. One of my old uni friends also ran a company called Palefire Productions at one time, which promoted up and coming Goth bands. :)

The real reason I am Palefire is because I thought it was a cool 8), mysterious sounding name and, being a Piscean, I tend to daydream a lot! ::)

I do like Palustris, though. Sounds a lot cooler than its definition Eric!! ;D

Campanula is a tad dull but apart from my fave flowers, it sort of chimes with one of my better school reports:
 ' empty vessels make the most noise'.

Bellamy-Wood is obviously my real name, it never occurred to me to use a non-de-plume when I signed on, and I don't have the imagination to think of one.  

People have said to me that I have a "posh" name.   It's not really, but it is somewhat  romantic.   I goes back several generations, and it would seem that the Squire refused to allow his daughter to marry an Irish tinker, so they eloped.   They never got married, and it was common in those days, to put both their surnames together when they registered their children's birth.

I have found reading everybody elses' stories fascinating.

Sorry Ina.  We`re only allowed 5500 characters per posting on these boards, and it would take far more than that for me to do justice to the story of Llewellyn ap Llewllyn.
