Just going to bed at 22.54, and they said  on the weather forecast on the news, that here in the South East we may get a touch of ground frost! :o
The horror on my face must have communicated itself to my non gardening OH, who calmly said, aw don't worry about it.
Now I am going to bed feeling sorry for all my plants, should I have rushed out there with my fleece? and wondering what is going to happen overnight on my plot! :'(  :'(  :'(  Only the morning will tell :(

I heard that on the news also and said to Ava, 'knew I should have picked the rest of my squashes today'.  Old Jack tells me we don't get frost in this part of Essex until January! Hmmm.....come Friday I shall bring home everything that is tender and tomorrows job, wrapping up the greenhouse!

44F last night in the greenhouse!!  Goodbye 'summer'. = Tim

Not sure if we had a frost or not, eveything looks ok....phew!! Have started to gather in some of the squash, will let them ripen inside I think!
EJ, wrapping up the greenhouse in bubble wrap is one of the jobs I hate! I think it is the thought of summer going :'( (though I do like the different seasons, I just wish the nicest one was longer! :))

Tim thats nearly put your thermals on weather! (which reminds me, where did I put mine? :) Do you have heaters in your greenhouse?

I don't mind wrapping it up, but it is such a palava.  I have a electric heater, but really only want it when the weather gets really nippy...mind you....if I want to get the rest of my toms red I think it might be in use a little earlier this year!

First frost of the year last year was 1st of September here. In the last 9 years the only month we have not recorded frost is August. Count your blessings folks.
Autumn is definitely here though, we have had the wood stove lit last night and tonight, only for the cats mind you.
Gardening is the great leveller.

ha! palustris, lighting the wood burner for the cats, that made me smile as that is what we do, and have been thinking it's about time! think they are trying to give me the hint by sitting in front of it and looking small and fluffed up!
cannot believe the change in the weather which seems to have been all of a sudden. i'm on annual leave at the moment; i feel like saying: but hang on, where's my summer gone!

Garden Manager

Still quite mild at night down here in dorset, though someone reported a 'frost' of sorts elsewhere in the county a few nights ago (probably in an exposed/frost prone spot).

Its definetly Autumn though. Arived with a bang this year, rather than the gentle decent from summer of previous years. SIGH!
