This is one of those, if a tree falls in a forest and there is nobody around to hear it, does it make a noise?  ;D

What is different about a ducks voice box that makes him quack, or a goose honk, or a turkey gobble, or a chicken cluck, yet other birds whistle?

Now theres one to ponder  ???
Friendship isn't a big thing.
Its a million little things.

Don't know about ducks quacking, but the first thing about the tree falling is an old one from before people understood the mechanism behind the transmission of 'noise'. When a tree falls, it must create sound waves which travel  through the air. That there is no person around to interpret those waves as the noise of a falling tree is irrelevant.
If you want to hear a duck quacking, our little call duck can be heard at least a mile away  along the lane!

Since we are in a pedantic mood :D, I must disagree over the noise/sound issue.

When a tree falls, or any event come to that, energy is imparted to the surrounding material, eg air. In the air, this is imparted in the form of a pressure wave, which travels through the air (at the speed of sound). Creatures with the sense of hearing can detect this pressure wave, and interpret it as sound. Therefore, neither noise nor sound actually exist except after being perceived, only a pressure wave.

Can't comment on the ducks etc, as I don't know, but it is fascinating ...

Apparantly.. a ducks quack does not echo - so they say. Although i've been fishing near bridges at it does.

These duck live round the corner from us and don't quack - they whistle..they're really sweet - rush around in a mob making a sort of anxious whistling sound.
