Catching a mouse

Help!

This is not quite a lottie question, but I thought I'd ask.

I spotted what I thought was a very large and fast moving spider which on second glance turned out to be a mouse.  Its taken up residence under the piano and attempts to lure it into a humane trap baited with bird seed and cheese have failed so far.

I don't have a cat and playing the piano seems to have no effect so far.  Thought some jazz might flush it out. I like mice, but not to live with!

Any suggestions? :)

Try baiting the trap with some chocolate mice luv the stuff. I managed to rid my shed of them in no time.

Marvellous!  I'll have a go at that.  Otherwise I'll try Derekthefox's solution in I've lost the plot with the fleece sweater capture method.  However, I'd use a spare, the neighbours think I'm eccentric enough as I am  ;D

Piece of Mars bar got my one (mind you it was not a humane trap!!) Got fed up with him eating all the sweet pea seeds in the greenhouse. They have to really "chew" at mars bar and bang all over in a second. (Sorry folk!!)    Lorna.

'Humane' traps are very inhumane.

IF you happen to remember to check them after the animal has been in there with no air for a day or so, you let it out in someone else's garden to be grabbed by the nearest cat.

The most 'humane' killer is the newish plastic, pre-baited, easy set trap. Come in pairs. Bingo - dead. Full stop. No misses!!

Tim.   Where can you buy this sort of trap please? I have never seen one like it, mind you sometimes up here in the Fens shops are sometimes a bit behind the times :) Lorna.

Hi Denise, I sympathise.  A little mouse took  up residence  in our TV and Hi Fi Unit in our sitting room a while ago, it must have been nice and warm there.  Fortunately we have got two cats and a dog and they sat and guarded the area all night.  My husband just made a little trap out of a little cardboard box, which it just ran into after our cat ran after it.  We took it away from our house and put it on a spare piece of ground. Tim's trap looks very fancy in comparison to ours but worth it if it works.  See below the posting on my experience. Good Luck!  :) busy_lizzie

Got all thirty of ours with 3 traps and a nice piece of cheddar but word has got around about the cheese and the mice keep a coming!!!

;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Forgot to say, the mice are in our attic with tackety boots on.

You have to use a bit of psychology ... bait a trap with a peanut , not a spring one ... let it get it for a few days .. then don't put a peanut on it but put a razor blade in the middle of it, when it doesn't see the peanut, it will look over the razor blade looking from side to side saying "Where the hell is the peanut?"  ... problem solved !  *evil grin*
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is the fact that it has never tried to contact us.

lorna - sorry - ours came from Countrywide - the 'farmers' store'.

Pheronome baited, I assume.

Thanks Tim.  I have only ever had that one in the greenhouse thank goodness none in the bungalow. However my daughter seems to be having a problem in the house she rents. (a new house) It maybe that the farmers have been cutting the fields behind her. Lorna.

I have just spent the day cleaning out father in laws kitcen drawers which have been invaded by mice! Met one of the little guys who decided to run off the litchen work surface at me and use my belly as a trampoline down to the floor!!
Interesting!!

Will try the phsycological approach!

Thanks Tim... Said daughter has just been and forgot to tell her about the trap. Mind you I have to get in quick with conversation as Phoebe (their horse) is always the main topic!!    Lorna.

Treacletop. Blimey rather you than me!!! :o :o We use to get one or two rats when we kept pigs fortunately we had a man call once a month to check all buildings. Didn't mind seeing the odd one round the buildings but wouldn't like to meet one in the greenhouse.

Hmmm, we have just found a packet of biscuits bought for Christmas and popped in the loft by mistake, with loft insulation tucked inside, it looks like a mouse has tucked himself inside.  Just deciding how to entice him out, probably peanut butter as he has the chocolate in his bed!  It looks so cute this little nest but i would hate to meet him, I'm not very good with mice and worse with rats!

Def the peanut butter - used this on a normal trap with great success - they love it and have to hang around just long enough licking it off! :-\
