Good picture - pity it's not a collared dove chick - it would have solved an earlier debate.

PS Have you ever seen one?

A squab is a rare sight.  I don't think I've ever seen one.

I always get collared doves nesting every year at home
but I've never seen a chick.  The first you get to see
them is when they are fully feathered and fledged
Oh well, maybe one day  :)

I get them nesting on the balcony sometimes; they make a fearful mess.

We actually ended up with a pigeon nesting on top of an old wardrobe on my parents' landing a few years ago :o

The wardrobe had been put there for later disposal and when my parents came to move it,  they found that a pigeon had built a nest on top of it.
My Dad is one of those people who insists on keeping windows open for 'fresh air' all year round, and she'd been coming and going completely unnoticed through the landing window :D

After hurridly covering everything else on the landing with old sheets, we then had to just let Mum get on with it and were rewarded with seeing her with both eggs and squabs. She was very tolerant and didn't mind us watching her and my Dad even got a few photos :)

Oh what a super story - glad it had a happy ending  :)

My Dad is a real lover of wildlife and animals in general, even though he won't admit it very often ;D

He was absolutely adamant that Mrs. Pigeon wasn't to be disturbed and the wardrobe could stay where it was, for as long as it was needed :)
