We never get them before 25 July. And this year they just will not climb.

Dawn - enjoy!

Mine are like Doris' - struggling to get going, no flowers or anything yet!

My main crop runners and French beans are similar to those previously descibed, however...

I planted four bean plants in my greenhouse, they have literally taken over one end and I have had several pickings already.

If you have little black beetles in the flowers, do not worry too much.  They are rape beetles and they seem to go for runners once the rape has finished.  They will eat the pollen and stop early flowers from setting but they soon die off and you will get beans from subsequent flowers.  I have had this problem ever since I started growing runners.  Loads of rape beetles in Lincolnshire.  Loads of rape in Lincolnshire.

Good for you Dawn.  Love runners covered in butter and plenty of black pepper! mmmm

Mine, like everyone elses it seems, are slow to get going, but have plenty of flowers.  I have been picking French beans for 3 weeks now and they are still growing/going strong!

wardy

My french beans got killed off by frost on 4th and  5th June ish so had to start again  >:(   My runner beans don't seem to be doing much and are just starting to climb.   Never grown french beans before and was hoping for great things.  Oh well it's only July  ;D

...... this year they just will not climb.

That sounds a bit odd, Tim. What variety are they.

Are they just squirming along on the ground or not growing at all?
