Poll

We're setting up new allotments and hope to have 100 plots of varying sizes. We need to know how many car parking spaces to allow. Based on YOUR OWN allotment, how many do we need? (For example, if you have 40 allotment holders on your site and there are

Car parking spaces required for our new allotments
« on: October 19, 2009, 19:38:20 »
... 20 car park spaces, you'd say 50 in the poll, as our site has 100 plots. I hope that makes sense!)

Your answers will be really helpful to us. If you can post a message also with a link to your allotment map on your website showing the spaces, that would be great. We're having a discussion with the council over how many we really need.

Thanks,

Pete

we don't have any proper parking spaces, but some folk have a small 'pull-in' on the end of their plot. other sites don't even have that, no parking on site at all.
You couldn't make it up!

I'd say use the space for more allotments rather than parking!

Have consideration for people who live near too.

Most of our plots have a space on the end.
We also have about 8 spaces near the shop on site.

we have to share the car parking with the rugby and bowling green, also,on match days, the streets are full, usually saturday am, sunday am and pm :-\
there are 3 disabled spaces and we have 4 disabled members and most of the bowling are disabled  :-\
there is a 300 metre walk to the plots and we have made the paths wheelchair sized now so that helps..it depends on your situation, where your members live(we're 15 mins by car away) and what sort of storage they have on site(bringing tools, etc)
can't do a pic, sorry  :)

There is no provision made specifically for the allotment.  There is no on-site parking, but at weekends the road outside is virtually empty and during the week there is space for 3 or 4 cars in the lane and 10+ in the church car park.  Most people walk, the most cars I have seen is 5.........

100 plots, car park for five cars, and several other places around site to park up.  not usually more than one or two cars.

If the allotment's well planned it'll be close enough for most people to walk or cycle, but it is handy to have somewhere for a car if you have stuff to transport, and not everyone will live close by.

We have 70 plots on our site. We have about 10 official spaces for the site in the adjacent car park of about 50 spaces.
Although we have so many spaces available, I have only ever seen a max of 5 cars that belong to allotmenters as many walk and people visit their plots at different times of day,.

We have 114 plots and about 30 official car park spaces but some people park on the grassed areas near their plots so parking is never a problem.

We also have no spaces and have to park on a road and then walk.  The walk is past a nature reserve complete with lake - lovely.  Quite a few cycle and we do have a cycle rack.   We can get a little closer very briefly for deliveries.   Seems a pity to waste growing space to car parking.  40 plots never seen more than five cars, and some of those for walkers in reserve.

We have a communal shed and communal wheelbarrow.

We have 10 spaces in our car park for 36 members.  Very rarely have I seen it full up, so would think 30 spaces would be ample.

We have over 100 plots and 10 or so spaces dotted around. A few people have made space at the end of their plots for their car too. I've never seen the car spaces all taken.

We have 54 plots. There are 14 car parking spaces dotted around the site including room for 6 in the main car park which is just inside the gate.

I have never seen more than 10 at any one time.

We have 175 plots and possibly parking for 16... at a push.. not marked bays. I'm increasingly annoyed at people parking on their plots... even against committee warnings.. If I get my way the site will be pedestrianised!!  :-X

My site has around 70 plots and no specific parking places. There are areas where people can, and  do,  park but I've rarely seen more than a handful of cars there at any one time.
Flighty's plot,  http://flightplot.wordpress.com,  is my blog.

80-plus plots and a car park for about 20 cars. (Not sure of the exact number, as I've never seen more than 6 or 8 there at a time.

Parking outside impossible during the week, as they all park for the station!

70 plots and zero car parking spots. None! Plot is totally car free.  Most of the old timers are very local as in on the actual road - if you need to drive you can park nearby.
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

100 plots and 3 parking areas with parking for around 30 cars, no one would have to walk more than 200 yards.

Yet still people use half their plots to park on, or even worse have taken on a second plot just for them to park on, and the waiting lists are so long the council will no longer take on new applicants.
Best laid plans and all that
