This is a great website, nice to see it so busy!

i have a problem, i bought an habanero chili from the garden center, as a one inch tall seedling. That was approx 5 weeks ago.it is now only 4 inches tall, with what looks like side shoots coming out of the leaf joints (but these are not growing!, they appear to stay the same size). Is this normal, for such little growth in 5 weeks? It is kept moist at all times, and is growing in a sunny conservatory.  At this rate i can not expect it to be a 45cm bush by summer lol.

I sowed some chilli peppers (mixed) a few weeks ago, they are very slow even thou they are in my GH. i think you should just persist.
Did you know that Habenera (a instead of o) is a slow cuban dance in duple time!!! Very HOT dance ;) and prob very HOT chillies :D

Don't know, but welcome!

In case it makes you feel any better, these are some of ours. Sown 16/4 & v. reluctant. And that's with bottom heat.

The overwintering folk are already picking theirs??

i have some photos of mine, but i can not find the attachment link  ???

Kerry

mine are slow too-started early so they can ripen over a longer season-but are as Tim's pictures. pepper plants also similar. :-\

David R

keep at it, they will soon sprint away. grown them loads and they are always slow to start

ajb

Habaneros (and scotch bonnets) are slower than other chillies. They like really warm temperatures too.

Don't worry about the little shoots - they don't grow at first and often not at all. They seem to be spares waiting to pop out if the growing point is damaged.

Don't give up hope, they will get there eventually!

Hmm.  My chillies are actually quite big now, mebbes 12".  It is my sweet peppers which are sulking and are puny in comparison.  Hey-ho, they wll prolly catch up later I expect.

does anybody know the expected sowing to harvesting time? And how often it should be fed (if at all).I did feed it the other day and i think it has grown an inch since thursday lol.It is quite exciting, i havent grown anything since i was a teenager :-\.

Apart from a bonsai tree which shed all its leaves lol.

I started harvesting last year mid summer - but my plants are all in my greenhouse.  I fed and watered them the same as my toms......about weekly with the feed.  Once there are fruits on the plants, I pick them as I need them, I don't necessarily wait for them to ripen up to their true colours.  Still have 3 bags in the freezer full, and a string of dried thai chillis in the kitchen!  Must make more mexican dishes!!

Jill

Grew habaneros last year and fed once a week but watered and misted daily.  Knew when to harvest when chilis turned from green to orange but 'fraid I can't tell you exactly when that was.  This year I'm growing 3 types including habs and have to say that the other two are outstripping the habs' growth so far.

David R

You dont have to wait till they go red, use them green, just as hot!

Mine took about 3 months or so from sow to harvest, but it depends on the temperature, moisture in the soil etc - its not an exact science ;)

Bodolph

All of my chillis are tardy this year. Think the weather has had an impact

yeah it appears so.But this last week has proven to be a good one. Thanks for the help folks :D

Hey Swainclubber - Sorry to post a link to my website but it lists transplant to harvest times you were looking for e.g. http://www.readytogrow.co.uk/seeds/p_Habanero_Orange.html
Orange Habanero.

I wouldn't recommend feeding it at all until it flowers. Otherwise it will get lazy and not bother to try to procreate! They only really need a good feed when they are producing fruit - use a very dilute tomato feed (for the potash).

Hope that helps!!
