Allotments 4 All

Finally got my bean canes up today, think I shall leave the plants in the greenhouse for another week at least before I put them out.

This is how I keep my peas up, it works very well,

My  word  how very organised and neat  :)   You do like your beans Richard - so many canes  :)

I notice that the way you have your canes doesn't take up much floor space.  I grew mine in a round last year but you can't harvest the beans which grow in the middle  :(

How high *do* peas (Kelvedon) grow - should they ever deign to put in an appearance on the lottie, that is!  The ones on my window sill are growing away well, and I reckon if seeds on the plot don't take soon I might have to call it a day with them and just plant out the indoors ones in that bed, instead of in the garden.  I could readjust netting at that point, as supports would have to go in anyway.

Kelvedon peas are only short, so about 3 or 4 foot high, my Aldermans should top 6 foot!  (Hopefully!!) 

Does look very neat Richard.  To me, an allotment isn't an allotment until the bean poles are up!  ;D

The Kelveldon wonder peas grew anything from 2 to 3 feet tall last year, depended what the weather was like when they were growing,  I have planted more early in the year this time as last year the late ones were attacked by mildew.  There are 120 bean canes in that double row which most , when the beans are ready I am hoping to sell.

Thanks EJ and Richard.  Peas were actually putting in an appearance today (no Kenyan beans yet though) so I'll give them to next weekend and then rig something up at the height you suggest.  Many thanks.

Mind-boggling, Richard! Do you stagger your plantings?

This is all we'll be having. Daughter grows the French Beans in another patch.

No Tim I will not stagger my plants but I am planting 2 varieties, Enorma and Polestar, the Polestar should be producing beans before the Enorma.

The peas have been staggered but the later sowings are catching the first sowings up, but not to worry I have plenty of room in my freezer for the peas.
