Just thought I would let you have an update.

This coming Sunday I am viewing some vacant plots. They are not on the site I wanted but are not to far away.

I have been reading the advice you have all been giving Merlins Mum, and the points you have made about asking the correct questions to ask as to why they are empty.

I have been told that a couple of the plots need clearing and that the council will be doing that by May. So I have to view them with an open mind as to how they will end up.

Just hope I make the right choice. But I want to get going so the waiting for the site I really wanted to be on has wained.

Wish me luck

Ron ::)

Well done Ron, I'm pleased you've got something sorted.  I take it you're getting a plot on the site opposite Moor Park, as Waggi is so excited??
Just one comment here.....the council clearing will involve cutting all the growth back and treating the entire plot with weed killer, then covering with black plastic.  You may want to consider taking and clearing a plot yourself as the council's method kills off everything (good and bad) and it would be a pity to lose things you may want to keep such as established fruit bushes etc.
Of course it will depend on how neglected the plot you chose is and how much hard graft you can put into it but it's a point worth considering. Oh, and if you clear the plot yourself you should get one year's free rent (as we did on the Penwortham site and I'm sure the same applies to yours)
Good luck and keep us updated

It's interesting to hear the council clears allotments.  Lucky you  ;D

Good luck with it  :)
I came, I saw, I composted

The council cleared mine but I asked them just cut back the 5ft weeds and take the caravan off the plot .

I pointed out weed killer was a no no as far as i was concerned , my neighbours on the allotment have been very helpful adn kind. I have got loads of wood for free from the guy next me .

He's also has given me advice on planting ( this is my 1st year )

hope you get a plot soon

Mags

i did let my enthusiasm get the better of me  ;D

Hi Ron
I know just how you feel.  Having got my name on the waiting list for what I think is the best sight, I can't stop thinking about the vacant plots on another sight.
Just like you, I want to get started, although I know there will be a hell of a lot of work before I'll be growing much if I go for one of the vacant plots.
Ain't easy is it!

No need to be sorry Waggi i just thought it was amusing.

MM it is a hard decision to make. I think I will have another one to make on Sunday choosing between 3 or 4 plots and they will probably all be in the same condition. (not very good)

But at least I will have a plot and can at least look forward to planning, even if not growing anything.

Think I will have to look for a shed and make it home from home hehe!!!! Dog (Mollie) and me will be spending sometime down there.

Thanks all
Ron

I keep saying I'm on the look out for a shed but my OH says it might be best to get the lottie first, ehem.   ::)   I suppose he's right (she says grudgingly!).
Oh and the council are doing really cheap composters and water butts so I'm looking at those too and surprise surprise I'm getting the same response from you know who about those as well, haha.
I wish I had done this 10 years ago when both Toby (dog) and I were that much younger but still better late than never eh!
