Allotments 4 All

My lovely sprouts have whitefly and are beginning to look sorry for themselves.  I know i should have netted but its our 1st year and we spent all our money on seeds and tools.

donny netting would not have stopped the whitfly  not much does I am afraid spray using  washing up liquid diluted in water.  I use stergene washing up liquid but I would think other brands would do the trick. ( a tablespoon of liquid to a litre of water )

We're trying a garlic spray this year, it worked on the greenfly  :)

the dreaded WHITE FLY 

if a white fly can survive last winters -15 degrees there is not a lot we humans can do to kill them off,

white breed very fast, each female lays 200 eggs every 7-10 days, the pupa becomes adult at 3 weeks old,

i put the dreaded white fly on the same par as mares tail , flogging a dead hoss,

but i keep trying -------------honestly

sort of ok, until it rained, they're back now but numbers seem down  :)

I get grumbled at when they end up in the kitchen :D

I just try to see them as extra protein!

Urghhh

they make the washing water cloudy. There have been impossible numbers this year. Do they have a preditor?

I think ladybirds eat them Aim sure I read that somewhere they are awful things,Told my O H i was going to try to electrocute them with a car battery don't know if that would kill them  ???

I have some of those yellow sticky sheets for catching insects in the greenhouse.

They are useless in the greenhouse, but one tied to a stick and placed between my cabages seems to reduce the numbers of white fly.

Bloomin January and were talking about White fly  :'( (oh well al sent to test us hey).

One thing ive noted is i didnt see the Ladybirds feeding on them at all this year, so was surprised to hear they even fed on them, maybe they were just sick of WF on the menue.

Hers hoping for some d**n hard frost.

The frost doesn't seem to make any difference, I saw loads caught in spider webs this year but not enough webs to make a difference, the only other way I have found is greasing a board and holding it above the plants while someone else shakes the plant, long winded but it does keep the numbers down somewhat.    :-\ ???    :P

That also works quite well with fleabeatle.
