His nest came down last week following heavy rain; unfortunately his siblings didn't make it. I spotted him on the patio where he was sitting as still as anything. Initially he didn't move at all when I picked him up. But as I scooped up the remains of the soft part of the nest he wriggled free from my hand and held on tight to my t-shirt. Which is why my favourite gardening t-shirt is now part of his temporary home getting pooed on regularly.

Have to say I was glad no one was around when I carefully stripped off in the garden with chick attached to shirt!

The parents continue to feed him, I'm hoping he is hidden well enough to keep him safe.

Oops I forgot that bit, yes a House Martin.
He's been in his make shift nest for 4 days now. I've no idea how long before he can fly, I hope it is soon.

I thought I'd give a little update. The evening before last I found Martin on the ground. I kept an eye on him for a while. He didn't seem to be doing much and I decided it safest to pop him back in his make shift nest.

This is a photo of him yesterday morning sitting on a low wall not far his nest.

Just as I was saying to him it wouldn't be long his flying was improving and he had made it to the wall, he took off. Barely skimming above the ground at first and then all of a sudden he began to climb in the sky. By the chatter going on it seemed one parent was closely following him. I lost sight of them as they went behind some tall trees.

I'm sooooooooooooo glad I saw him go, I was dreading an empty nest and not knowing.

I rescued a swallow which had flown into a big glass window and was stunned a couple of years ago.
It is such an honor to be able to help these lovely birds, and so rare to get so close to them :)
