Pizza - how do you like yours?

We're having a bit of an Italian interlude foodwise at the moment, and last night I made a pizza.  I topped it with a thin layer of tomato sauce, then small chunks of aubergine which had been gently softened in olive oil with a little sliced garlic and a crumbled red chili.  A scattering of chopped black olives. Finally a mozzarella ball sliced and dotted around and a scrape of parmesan.

Served with a simple green salad.

I'm afraid that the aubergine was a bought one; we haven't got much lottie produce left even in the freezer.  But I'm looking forward to this year's plum tomatoes, and the artichokes and maybe even an aubergine or two of our own if the weather is kind.

What are your favourite pizza toppings, home-grown or not?

:P Ohhhh...bloody h...l..I'm hungry now ::) That sounds sooo yummy. I'm not picky, I'll eat if its edible. But I always fondly remember my first time with blue cheese topping..musrooms, danish blue (lots), chicken and garlic.
That started me off with blue cheese mania..it went on everything.. ;D
Generally anything tomato based is my favourite..tomato, cheese, garlic and olives..even thought of it makes me salivate now... ;D..and...with really thin base so you can roll the pizza slice before eating it..

artichoke

Plenty of anchovies criss-crossed over the pizza in a pattern, speckled with black olives.

After decades of making rather soggy pizzas, I have learned not to overdo the topping. I use tomato paste instead of sauce plus a few sliced fresh tomatoes.

I have got a bit lazy about the base: I collect bags of ciabatta mix from supermarket, and this makes superb pizza bases in seconds, mixed only with water and olive oil. Works very well.

When grandchildren are around, they have to construct their own sections with whatever they each prefer (two refuse to eat tomatoes!) such as tinned sweetcorn, bits of ham, sliced peppers.

Funny that this topic should arise after I saw a "breakfast" pizza last night. On of the lads on continental shift had it delivered...sausage,bacon,beans and mushrooms...looked delicious.

Im happy with anything on a pizza apart from the following...olives,sweetcorn,seafood and pineapple......a spicy meat combo is my favourite although I dont have them very often..far too many calories!

Have to agree with you there on the pineapple and sweetcorn it is just wrong ::), I love making pizza and my fav is very similar to Melbornes, with a lot of anchovies, artichokes and black olives...mmmm not even lunch time and feeling very hungry now.. ;D

I like any as long as no seafood or pineapple.  We often break an egg on top of a pizza......yummy ;D

manicscousers

Still using our own topping with our onions, garlic, chillie, peppers and tomatoes, plus peppers from the freezer, onions, bought mushrooms and grated strong cheese with, sometimes, our beef tomato slices on  ;D

Friday is always pizza night in our house - got one in the oven as I type.

Mozz Cheese, tomato, onions, peppers, pickled courgettes finely sliced, avocado, [usually just the first three plus one other] with a sprinkle of mature cheddar on top. Yum. OH likes mushrooms so he gets a few if we've got any.

lillian

Tomato puree topped with thin slices of beef tomato, a sprinkling of whitworths dried onion and grated chedder cheese...Yum :P

For pizza i tend to open a can of plum tomatoes and add this to finely sliced onion which has been dried off with some garlic and herbs. I also look at adding some tomato puree and cook it all down for at least an hour as the base.

The toppings are onion, sweetcorn, peppers or ham, pineapple or spicy chicken (left over tandoori chicken) with spinach and any one of these topped with cheese and a twist of garlic salt :)

YUM might have to make some now!

Topping? salami, garlic Sausage, Pineapple, sweetcorn, Parma Ham.

I love mine hot and spicy.

"When I was young..." I worked at a pizza delivery place and when the boss went home we used to sometimes make pizzas for ourselves! After much testing, the preferred combo for all and sundry was: ham, pineapple, spicy pepperoni, sweet peppers, onions and black olives.  Still makes me drool just thinking about it (sorry for all those who think pineapple is inherently wrong!!).

I kind of like mushrooms, minced beef, onions and salami myself.

WOW

has any one ever worked out how much these over rated sandwiches cost to make?.

I did and when a friend who was, a bit short of dosh wanted help to do a birthday bash. They booked a room over a social club for 100 (free because they reckoned they would get back the money on booze sales)  I was asked to do the food.

Well I was actually  asked  if I could do the food for £50.

No I did not want to make a profit. I just accepted the challange as my gift to the birthday person.

Loads of bread dough.

passata for the base.

I did have a few weeks notice so spent some time getting together from various sources what ever was available . And freezing it

Of course there were several rounds of 'garlic bread' too

Another friend provided a couple of big cakes from Farm foods.

Some one else got paper plates.

Every one had a great time.

It can be done if you work together.
