Allotments 4 All

On the 18th March 2004 I sowed a couple of dozen celeriac 'alabaster' seed, planting them out a few weeks later.  Today I dug up the last 10 as I need the ground for my Alderman peas.  Not huge, but good sized, all very healthy and blemish free.  Not bad for plants that have stood in the ground for nearly a year!  I shall be chopping them all up, blanching and freezing them tomorrow for later use.  Noticed this evening when tucking up the greenhouse, tray full of celeriac seedlings all looking green and lush!

Sounds good were they easy to grow?

I've never grown it or eaten it, how do you cook it, as it sounds a good veg to grow.

EJ are they hard work? We all like Celeriac but my Dad-in-law reckons that they are hard work and need lots of water? As we don't have water at the plot I have left them out of my plans this year.

Easy peasy japaneasey!  ;D  I started them off in trays, mine are through now, then pricked them out, then once they had a few 'true' leaves, planted them in a nice neat row on the plot, and promptly ignored them!  Weeded around them once in a while but didn't get them any extra water as I don't have any plumbed in on site and am far to lazy to lug watering cans from down the other end of my plot up to the far end.  Used the first in the summer when it was about tennis ball size and have been taking the odd one here or there ever since.   ;D

I'm growing celeriac this year for the first time. Sowed them on 18th Feb, germinated 2nd March but are still looking very small, no true leaves yet. But very reliable, every seed sown has germinated, pretty good I thought.
