Today has been my 60th birthday!  My lottie friend and her husband gave me a fantastic present.  They had found an old spade in a skip, and he polished it up and put a lovely new wooden handle on it.  They wrapped it up and tied it with a big ribbon.  It probably cost very little in monetary terms, but a lot in time, effort and the  thought that went into it. I know that I shall enjoy using it much more than a brand spanking new one bought from a shop!

Now that is a good pressie, birthday or otherwise, that one came from the heart and not the wallet, very important to me.Happy Birthday XX Jeannine

What a lovely idea and as you say, so much nicer than a new one from a shop.

Happy Birthday!  :)

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Happy birthday! That's a wonderful present.

My 60th birthday present to myself was the plot, which you won't be surprised to learn was one of my best presents!

Your story reminds me of a present we gave a friend - a fork, we wrapped it up in brown paper, so that it was obvious to anyone looking at it that it was a fork, then put a bow on it and then travelled across London with it - tubes and buses - and not one person said anything to us, plenty of people gawped, but no comments! Needless to say it was a welcome present!

Happy Birthday and happy digging  :)

Mr Smith

That is the kind of present I would like, only the other week I broke one of my forks and rather that throw it out it now as a new wooden handle to serve me and whoever else for years to come, :)
