Faced with a mountain of dirty plant pots yesterday, and the fact that my kids are now wise to the "I will pay you a penny a washed pot" trick, I bunged them in the dishwasher! (I am sure some of you already do this) The result was sparkly sterilised pots! ;D ;D ;D

OOOOOOOOOOOO Doris....best tip yet   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
I loathe washing pots and this is a great idea.  Just one question...doesnt the washed off compost clog everything up????
Hope that you had a great birthday yesterday.   ;)
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Doris_Pinks

Didn't clog anything up for me, just emptied the filter afterwards!
I did shake off any excess compost on them though, (Mine are covered in dry compost) didn't fancy a gritty cup of tea this morning! ;D I suppose you could run them around with an old loo brush to remove the excess? I even put in my seedling trays too,was worried they all might melt but they didn't!
Had a lovely day yesterday thanks, washed loads of pots!  ;D  ;D   ;D  ;D  ;D
(if my dishwasher collapses in a few days I may have to remove this post!)  :D :D :D

I came, I saw, I composted

NattyEm

Cooker rings I put in my dishwasher and I have a friend who puts her mooncup in there (if I'm allowed to mention it again, I promise not to get fanatical!!)  hadn't thought to plant pots though...

Mrs Ava

Wheel trims!  ;D

Many many yonks ago I broke mum and dads first dishwasher by putting all of my dirty pots in!  I blame the fact that I am a lazy moo and didn't brush the compost off.  I really should do it though.....I have noone to blame but little old me if I get damping off disease cos I never wash my pots! :-\

Tut tut EJ      Washing yer pots pays off.  I once washed a load of them, took them to the car boot sale and flogged the lot in one go (smug mode)  :)

PS    What's a mooncup?

I wish I had a dish washer. Other than Mr Aqui, that is!

I'm with Emma on this one. I tend to just leave my pots out in the rain! I keep meaning to do it, but then on a day when it's warm and sunny enough, I'm too busy planting, sowing, digging, tidying, pruning, cutting back, thinking, etc...
gone to pot :D

Val

Yes I put mine through . Put some white vinegar in as well as the usual detergent, powder or tablet,  and it brings the dishwasher up sparkling.

me too. Never even new they existed! (the mooncup that is, not dishwashers!) They don't look particularly comfy? :o

Multiveg

There was something on Woman's Hour about a mooncup type thing (there was also an article on hysteria and an alternative cure....!!!! less said about that the better!!!)

Pots - washed mine in the bath with a little "help". Still got more pots to wash that I forgot about in the greenhouse, oh well.
