.. satelite channel UK TV Style is launching a new gardening channel in mid march (21st?).

This will inevitably involve plenty of 'makeover'  ::) programmes, but they also promise plenty of other (BBC made) programmes including old GW's with Alan, and posibly (in time) going back to Geoff Hamiltons days.

;D ;D ;D

Any comments?

Dont know, probably not to start with at least. Channel will start on SKY Digital, and will go from there (at least i assume so - dont know if the UKTV channels are on Freeveiw).

The timing of the launch is interesting - just in time for Easter!  ;D ;D ;D

Hoorah!

I can see the video recorder going into overtime

Well WHAT a pleasant surprise.

Instead of having to wait until mid march we have our gardening channel NOW.

UK TV Style Gardens (though why it just cant be 'UK TV Gardens' i'll never know!) started this week. A whole month earlier than planned. Hurrah for the UK TV bosses I say!

Already looking good. Yesterday we had a WHOLE DAY of MR T on How to be a Gardener. Fantastic. Today is 'Ground Force Day' - not quite so good (seen some of those HOW many times?).

Looking forward to when they start showing GW  ;D.

I'm in gardening tv heaven!

Mimi

Hope that they do a rerun of Geoff Hamilton's 'Paradise Gardens'   ;D ;D ;D ;D Ahhhhh Bliss
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Amazing! I just posted something elsewhere in the shed about being sick and planning to watch Geoff Hamilton tapes while recovering. I mentioned I had never heard of the man and now I keep running into his name while reading the board. Paradise Gardens is one of the books and tapes and the other one is called Cottage Gardens. I guess I'm in for a treat but first I'm going back to bed for a while

Hi all, Is anyone as disappointed as me of the new Style gardening channel? Its just another long re-run of Ground Force..I even hate the tune now. Its got a few different progs, garden makers and Flying G. but why haven't they got the viewers hooked with a variety. We all know GF by heart, we could probably do it ourselves by now. Its so daft with all this bad weather and a lot of folk stuck indoors you'd think they'd make the most of us. Well we're get all the decent progs when the weather's good and we're outside anyway...whew, just had to sound off, I'm so disappointed.

I think its oK. You can pick and choose what you want to watch. i dont particularly mind GF, (its Home front in the garden i cant stand!). I like things like flying gardener and How to be a gardener.

I am a little disapointed they havent started showing old GWs yet, though.

Arn't these cheap channels churning up old repeats that the Beeb have repeated and worn out? ??? just to show, so that they can put adverts in between? ???

Mrs Ava

Lots and lots and lots of repeats!  Alan T*t with long floppy hair 10 years ago, and 30 mins later, with short modern hair!  Dermoud (sp?????) Gavin with long floppy hair 10 years ago, and 30 mins later, short cute hair  :P.  It seems to be one makeover program after another.  How to be a gardener has just been repeated with little updates on BBC and we can see it all again from scratch on the Style channel.

What would be good is a show like the UK food channel have, a live hour show with guests, almost like a magazine format, questions, how to's, what we should be doing, topical threads.......

Derek

Hi

Monty did a programme last year where he visited some Allotments in Birmingham.

I personally thought it was brilliant...very informative with some wonderful unusual tips from the various plotholders. A lady who grew plants to dye fabrics, another who made Gooseberry punch...the discovery of an illegal 'weed' on site :o

What a rich tapestry of people and stories which could and should be repeated from other sites all over the UK

Val

I know they can't always please everyone but GF and home front we've seen not the once but millions of times and I'm sure gardening styles and new plants are now out there somewhere, by the time we catch up we'll be too late. ;D

Derek I agree with you about Monty on the Birmingham allotments.  I've seen it twice and I loved it.  All the different types that were gardening in many different ways but all had the allotment in common.

I've got "The Allotment" DVD and there's a bit on there about some West Indian lottie holders who get together for their own allotment harvest thanksgiving meal which they prepare and cook on the allotment.  They make a cows foot stew with veg from the allotment (with cornmeal dumplings too).

They all seem so happy  ;D  The DVD is in different bits and each bit usually finishes with something being eaten or drunk on the allotment, eg broad beans with ouzo.  It's a right good watch and I recommend it to A4all folks

Now that would be a good idea EJ. As well as the repeats (i can never tire of Mr T either on HTBAG or GF -sorry!), some original programmes unique to UK TV Gardens would be great. How about one presented by Richard Jackson? He used to do a nice show on our local ITV channel, and appears regularly on QVC.

Its not as if UK TV are not accustomed to making their own shows.
