Delighted to find that grass-like volunteer garlic, grouped into a corner in March, has bulked up into little fat marbles, so used it today instead of digging up the real ones, still growing.

First new potatoes found by poking soil with a trowel; spinach; gooseberry and elderflower sauce with our pork chops. Lots and lots of herbs. A great heap of lightly boiled asparagus yesterday for four of us, with herby/garlicky butter.

Some huge red strawberries. Mara des Bois is the best strawberry in the world. Got the plants last year in Boulogne Market in August and am amazed at their growth and the size and sweetness of the fruit; will be collecting runners and establishing a bigger bed.

First salad of this season
Mixed salad leaves, spring onions, radish, finished off with rhubarb crumble

chriscross1966

THe first of the little gems, the first decent pulling of Ishikura spring onions (both from home), one of the last Durham Elf spring cabbages from the plot and the first pot-grown early spuds I've grown in donkeys years.... three Rockets planted in a 40cm square pot on the 17th of March yielded enough decent sized potatoes to make a 2 litre pudding basin of potat salad.... enough for me for four or five meals ......

Also ate a pod of raw peas and reckon there'll be a picking there to take to my folks tomorrow......
