Think Spring has arrived? ???

Well it aint ;D and  >:( for the gardeners - note im a weather nut and love snow ;D

From this weekend Ireland will finally get some proper cold weather which will
last for 5-7 days. Note this as it is now 60-70% likely. Cover those
flowers with cling film (or whatever you do ??? :D) from Saturday.

The severest spell of cold for about 4 years is a coming worst since
Feb 2001 i reckon.

I'll tell you more tomorrow as it becomes clear..

Remember i told you first, no doubt the Irish Met wont pick it up till
Friday or something like that! We have the capabilities to predict
the weather to 7 days but Ireland just aint been given it.
Weathercheck will..

I made a bad call a few weeks back but this spell is much more certain ;)

So what we looking at?

5 days or so with maxima around 2-4c
Hard Frost with temps down to around -3 - -4c by night.
Snow Showers on Northern and Eastern coasts
Winds from the Northeast and East
Some prolonged spells of snow

  News release

Winter sharpens its claws

16 February 2005

Snow, sub-zero temperatures and ice look set to hit Britain next week as weather patterns line up to give many of us the most significant period of winter weather yet this season.
The winter so far has been a mild one, with average temperatures across the UK some 2 °C above average. However, as signs of spring breakout across the country, forecasters at the Met Office are predicting the cold and potentially snowy weather to arrive through the weekend, with the risk of disruption from snow and ice lasting into next week.

Who planted all these weeds?

I just heard on the news, cold winter weather expected this weekend in Holland with possibly snow.
This week has been +2 or 3C in the day and -2 or 3 at night with a cold, biting wind but today the wind has died down.

Weathercheck may be right, winter is on the way.
I just hope my aqua dulces will not freeze to the ground, they made such a nice start and I was hoping to have really early broad beans this year. We'll see.

Now you know why we here in the coldest part of England delay planting things till at least the middle of next month!
Gardening is the great leveller.

My Aquadulces have flowers on them. I'm in one of the mildest parts of England, and they have been in the ground since October, but I think they'll be feeling the cold soon. :(

Mine have also been in the ground since October. Last year they seem to have suffered mostly from the wind. I could see on the ground how they had been whipped around and around, actually digging a circular depression. So, this year I put up a wind breaker all around the broad bean patch and it seems to do the trick. The plants that did't make it last year put out beautiful new growth in spring that cropped a little later but very well anyway so the roots had survived.

I think this is terrible news and such a shock too!!

Freezing weather and snow in Winter? I blame these new fangled flying machines - if God had wanted men to fly we would have been born with tickets!!

phil,

if god had wanted us to fly, he would never have given us the railways ;)

Not much matters....and nothing matters much!!!

Must put extra fleece on the greenhouse plants! Typical, my kids are back to school next week and it is finally due to snow, they have fingers crossed the old boiler at school gives up the ghost and they get a snow day or two! (I have mine crossed in the opposite direction!!)
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

For those who pay attention to my weather we have just had a burst of unseasonally cold weather, -15C here this morning. The prediction is it will be short lived, thankfully, but it should reach you next weekend even if it is modified by the pond.

Forecasts beyond 5 days are pie in the sky if you ask me, they are hit and miss, Gail Force tells you one thing and Jack Frost tells you another, someone gets it right at sometime.

I think my garden sits just above the Devils Hell Hole as the temperature hasn't dropped below zero this month and January's lowest was -1°C.
I haven't (except for one tree fern) wrapped a tender sub-tropical plant yet as our lowest Winter Temperature was Boxing Day -2.8°C

I have two temperature gauges in the shade on a wall just over 4ft above the ground, one is digital the other mercury, they are within one degree of each other and constant. 8)

I'm sticking to my own Forecast by sticking a wet finger in the air. :o
