There are a couple of threads running here at the moment which make me very sad.  Children and young people seem to be getting a very bad press at the moment ('red top' newspaper led I reckon) and I'd rather that didn't continue here.

So let's hear it for the kids/teenagers. I'd much rather read your positive stories.

well, ours are a bit older now but were always considerate and are lovely people(not saying they didn't have their moments )
I now have an 11 yr old grandson and an 11 yr old niece, again, they have their moments but are lovely, young people, I personally think the vast majority are great.. unfortunately, the only ones you read about are the bad 'uns  :-\

Thanks for kicking this off, Mal.  I couldn't agree more which is why I started this thread.  :)

well I have to think mine are fab cos I am the Mum!
My eldest is Great, at uni, calls, concerned about others, doesn't drink, worries about all her mates.......not your typical 20 year old!
Youngest  18 year old, off to the Gambia next Friday to help others, changed her life when she visited last year, so much so that she has saved the £800 to get her there all by herself by working in an ironing shop.............and  she cleans on the weekends too.
Pride about ones own is a wonderful thing! And yes I am smiling!
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Georgie well said!  As we all know the media always report the negative aspects of life but rarely the good things that people, including many youngsters, do.  It's a shame, which at times angers me,  as it distorts many peoples perceptions.

It is a bit annoying when our youth gets loads of bad press, Idle, workshy, troublesome, no pride in their country. But never any remarks about the youth that are nurses, firemen, police trainees etc.

And lets not forget all these coffins coming back into the country were not made for old men.

I have nine grandchildren , three boys ,seven girls ,all working and have always been they are lovely young people
I also have a young nephew who was in Iraqu [sorry about the spelling] now has retuned to the army, and VOLUNTEERED to go to Afganistan.
that to my mind is bravery, most of the young people today are great.

I teach 16-19 year olds and the major are great. They will help pick up my papers if I drop them in the corridor, hold doors open, have manners and do voluntary/charity work. Last year our students raised over £4000 for various charities.

I do not know many youngsters outside of my family but I am proud of the fact that my 8 grandchildren have grown/are growing in to lovely young people. They always treat me with much love and respect.
I found it heart warming to see the photos in our local paper showing so many teenagers taking part in the Remembrance Services, not only in March but in all the surrounding villages.  Another photo shows  5 young friends doing a sponsored swim for Children In Need, £300 was raised.

I'm really proud of my daughter and her friends as my recent thread about her band showed.  They are a lovely bunch who all look after each other, the boys always walk the girls home etc.  They are fab and will go on to be fab adults too  :) :)

I was walking down Guildford high street a couple of months ago, complete with overloaded pushchair, child & shopping, when a bottle of wine decided to end it all & leapt out of a bag, exploding itself on the cobbles.

A nearby huddle of spotty hooded yoofs were standing around holding their mobile phones, stopped what they were doing & looked up. Instead of laughing one of them walked straight over & grabbed the splitting carrier bag in order to prevent the rest of it's contents from joining the recently departed Rioja. He went on to help me pick up the broken shards of glass from the road, with complete disregard to how uncool this was making him look.

Meanwhile all the good grownups continued to push past...

Giving kids a bad name indeed!

A young lad - 10 ish, in a very crowded supermarket- stepped back to let me pass and

nearly fell into the magazine rack,   I thanked him and  received a '  thats OK, '  and a

   very surprised grin.

Makes you wonder if the shoe isn't on the other foot sometimes, and it's the kids who are

amazed that an adult can respond in the right way.

I think that ignorant kids must have ignorant parents,   even animals have to learn the way

of things by copying thier parents - its all example, don't you think ?

I think there are tons of good stuff out there that the kids do as folks have already said.. the problem seems more to do with who is looking!! Like everything else the negative is there if you wish to find it but the positive is there too and in my opinion it is there in abundance if looked for through positive eyes!!

Kids are kids.. God hasn't finished with them yet, they are still learning how to be... grown ups are  the teachers and kids  learn by praise not by put downs  . Personally I see mostly great kids  when I look around  and I can only speak as I see!!
