Should we have a picture of the month ?

Yeah - looking forward to it
No harm
Why ?
No !

Hi all,

Thinking of having a 'picture of the month' competition - what do you all think ?

Cheers

I'm not a competitive type, but I shall watch with interest. = Tim

I like the idea Dan. What do you have in mind?
Need volunteers to help organize it or will you do it?

Palustris

I think it is a dangerous thing to do. I have seen other sites fall to pieces when competitivness is introduced. Now I know that the people who normally post on here are sensitive, kindly, thoughtful, considerate, rational types, but for how long?
Gardening is the great leveller.

I think it's just meant as a bit of fun Eric so I don't think it will affect folks here too much, after all if they don't want to take part they don't have to.

EILEEN.

I like the idea.  Looking forward to it  :)

Was thinking of having people post an entry to a dedicated thread - say the week before the end of the month.

Then I will collate them, and we will have a poll everyone can vote in - the 'winner' will get some sort of prize !

Cheers

Hmm, good idea. Like it.

I dont think it will disturb the harmony of the site too much. After all we had that 'Cyber flower show' last year didnt we? That did no harm.

I shall certainly try to enter pictures. i usualy take a load of pics of the garden each month to record it so if i find a good one amoung them i'll enter it.

What sort of prize did you have in mind, Dan?

Mrs Ava

hehehehe, so long as peeps are honest, which of course as gardeners we are!  Ava frequents a site on tropical fish keeping, one of his many hobbies..must post some pics....and they have a piccy of the month comp and one chap showed THE most stunning pics of 'his' tank, which won the prize and every raved over it.....until.....a few weeks later someone found the exact same pictures on a professional photographer and fishkeepers site and it turned out the guy had copied and pasted the pics and declared them as his own!  People went mad, made me chuckle but then I am that sort of gal.

Glyn

Are the Photos to be all subjects, or one specific category?

Admin aka Dan

I think in general all subjects - but we might have specific subjects some months.

Looks like people are in favour of the idea in general.

And a heavy FINE for anyone who uses someone elses picture?? = Tim

Hmm Definetly Tim.Any thing in mind. I was thinking of something like a forfeit or 'truth or dare' as a punishment.

Hi everyone, i think this competion will be good, one to see what others are good at growing and like, help with all our phot skills, and after. talking about the winner prize pic for day after,
Dan - the prize it self (free packets of seeds to the winner)HA!HA! and if i come second i'll like the two weeks in New Zealand Please  :D  :D  8)
Keep up the good work

Looks like we are going to have a copetition - I'll start accepting submissions on 31 January.

Question: Are they supposed to be pictures taken in February to be posted for the February contest?

Might be better to have pics taken the previous month as entries. eg Feburary's entries = pics taken in January etc.

Marianne

Dan I think it's a jolly good idea - although my garden is rather tiny and empty at this time of year.   :(  Come spring, everyone will have lots of plants to show off !  Let's have it please! :)
Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.
