I did - missed the first 15 minutes though. 'twasn't really about allomenting was it? More about people who happened to share an allotment site. Gentle little tales. I was a bit "Is that it?" when it finished. I thought it was more like a pilot for a series than a film.

I did grin/chortle/snigger a few times though.  :)
Tread softly, for you tread on my greens.

thought it was really funny, some of the blokes on our plots are like some of them..just as well they're not in charge, one said we should turf people off for not eating their produce yesterday  :o  ;D

Borlotti

I enjoyed it, when the film first came out was going to watch it but heard it had a bad press.  Thought it was good especially the bit where they painted all the sheds blue, and then he painted his red (brilliant).  Some of it true as we have people on our allotment that have had depression or troubles and they say the allotment is a great therapy and a place to relax.

Thought it was great.  Are sharks fin 'melons' really special - has any one grown them?  or is this artistic licence?

Don't know about special but they do exist.  There are lots of threads about them and some recipes if you do a search on the forum.  I think Deb P is the 'expert'.  I had some seeds from Deb but couldn't get them to germinate.

plan to catch the show on i player.

i'm growing shark fin squash and it tried to take over my garden :o its a bit of a triffid plant but has seven very large fruit ripening now. there were more but in the last week they smaller ones have rotted off as the plant i assume is putting all its energies in the really big ones.

Seaforth Allotments

Watched it...
Blogged it...

On Friday, I watched 'Grow Your Own', described (by its creators) as a "down-to-earth comedy drama inspired by true stories".

...

It was predictable stuff: take a popular theme (allotments), add a quaint setting and mix in 21st century political correctness (race relations), dash with Liverpool schmaltz (You'll Never Fork Alone) - and the result is safe, vaguely watchable Friday night viewing.

The heavyweight cast was a surprise.

But in order to witness Omid Djalili working the soil in 2009, and to achieve the ideal of "garden-shed socialism" portrayed in the program (the sheds were painted red for a reason!), it is necessary to join the 505-strong waiting list for an allotment...

I would like to see more discussion of this issue in the mainstream media.
