this may happen everywhere, but I've just been onto my boss's computer to find a website for identifying fonts and his history is full of p o r n sites. so while I'm coming in early, working my a**e off because we're short staffed due to holidays and part time staff, he's up there doing no work getting his jollies >:(

am I being too easily shocked? is this what blokes do at work with a broadband connection?? I know he's just split up from his wife but surely there's a time and a place, and work isn't it!

I agree, No it doesn`t happen everywhere.

I don`t know how big your workplace is but do
they have an Internet and email use policy?

Maybe its time to write one.

he's lucky. I spend all my time looking for porn and all I get is websites for Fonts

Is he the boss boss or just a rung in the ladder?  If he is the top man then there is not a lot you can do about it. If he isn't then it really is not on and you should let him know that you know and tell him to stop it or you will report him.

I am no prude and frankly what ever turns you on (as long as it is legal) is down to each individual but not in work time on work computers.

ACE

So what are you doing looking for fonts on his history record!  It's his life, let him live it.

lewic

He might have spyware on his PC which can put links and popups to porn sites, which will appear in the history. I have seen this on several work PCs where the user was totally innocent.

He may just be an old perv though.. probably best to leave well alone unless you think it involves kiddies (and I doubt anyone would be that stupid)

How do you know they're p0rn sites?  Did you check each one???

I work from home and am completely addicted. I never get much work done and give into my desires too often. It is really counterproductive in my workplace and I wish there was more help for people like me.

I am very ashamed about it but I just can't keep away from that d**n greenhouse out the back... ;)

Baccy Man

One in three office workers admit to it according to the papers.

I have contracts with various companies to maintain & repair their computers, based on what I have seen whilst carrying out maintenance & repairs I would say the actual figures are somewhat higher. To be honest I couldn't care less wether people choose to view porn or not, however a lot of those sites are crawling with viruses & spyware which does cause problems. I find it irritating that I have to spend my time correcting the damage done by some of this malware when a lot of it could be avoided by simply blocking access to those sites.

norfolklass

actually what my boss chooses to look at doesn't bother me in the slightest, although with a company policy of all working on each other's computers as we move around from job to job I think he might want to be a little more discreet.

what bothers me is that he's constantly telling us how busy he is. there are four of us in his company, three full time and one part time. yesterday it was just me and him, then he left early. fine. but don't tell me how you're really busy then sit there doing no work when I'm working extra hours to get everything done. if you're going to sit there doing nothing at least be honest about it.

and no, I didn't look at each site but with the titles I saw in the history I really didn't have to...

Sorry Norfolklass, I did chuckle at your post!  I agree that if it's being done during workable hours when other people are slogging their guts out - not on at all but otherwise it's no big deal, surely?  Before work officially starts, during lunch break, after everyone's gone home?  Not really anyone else's business is my thought.  On my day off some time last year, it was realised that I browse non work related sites sometimes (not porn I might add, lol) and certain blocks were put in place (I work for a really small company so the guvnor did it) but I just access sites via a proxy instead which they haven't (and won't) suss yet.  Before anyone jumps on me for doing it in work time, I do it sometimes whilst eating my lunch or after work is finished and I'm waiting for my chauffeur (husband) to arrive  ;D

Edit:  NL, you posted your second reply at the same time as me, so ignore most of above, lol

Sorry, but if it a works computer then it is anything but personal!
That is what acceptable use policies are for and I doubt there are many companies that allow pron as part of their policy.
Check for spyware by all means, but there is no excuse for that behaviour at work.

Hi Norfolklass - What I find fascinating is why blokes have to look at porn in the first place!  I don't imagine us girls would be bothered at all - in fact the last thing in the world that I would look at is porn on the internet!!

But doesn't it just show you the difference between men and women!

I mean the girls will have a quick check on ebay or their favourite sites! But I should think that sex is the last thing on their mind when surfing the internet - whereas some fellas - that is all they think about!

Please - before you all shout at me I am not saying ALL men!

I don't have a PC at home so have to scan at work - I would be lost now without my daily fix of A4All!!

I think there is 2 issues going on here;

1 Should 'he' use the computer during work time whilst others are slogging their guts out?

2 Is is morally wrong to look at porn?

For my part I don't mind if he uses to computer for personal things, I did, and I bet most of the others in the office do too.

Do I really mind if anyone looks at porn? Probably not, with proviso's of course.
