Hello everyone!

I joined A4A a week or so ago and a friendly soul recommended I potter over here and introduce myself, so here I am.  I'm Lucy from E. Yorks., mum to two and keen but still fairly green gardener - although fortunately it looks like I've inherited my mum's green thumb!  ;D

Now, am I likely to get thrown out on my ear if I admit I don't actually have a 'lottie and have ripped a slew of pavers out of the back garden to make a veggie patch instead? Don't tell the OH, but I've got designs on the front garden next, a much-maligned patch of lawn that no-one uses, just crying out for a make-under...

Crops for this year are garlic, shallots, onions, swiss chard, corn salad, peas, spinach, lots of different cherry toms, beetroot, a few different courgettes, tomatillos, dwarf french beans, squash, sweetcorn, chilli peppers, sweet peppers, aubies, potatoes, basil, chives, garlic chives & spring onions - we also have pear, cherry & apple trees & quince, redcurrant & blackcurrant bushes. Good grief, that seems like a huge amount written down like that - although as we only started veggie growing a couple of years ago we're still at the 'suck it and see' stage regarding what grows happily here. Hopefully this year will be better than last, particularly regarding tomatoes!  :-\

Anyhoo, that's quite enough from me - I'm really looking forward to chatting to you all & picking up tips! The allotment talk is what I really feel I'm missing out on with the back-garden gardening, and although lovely OH does his best I can see his eyes starting to glaze when I start rabbiting about pinching out and rooting cuttings...

So, can I stay or shall I get my coat?  ;)

Hiya, lucy, pull up a chair and have a cuppa and a chocklit biscuit  ;D
sounds like you've gotta plan, hope you get the front garden, too  ;D

Sounds like you'll be a great new addition to this site. From what you say you're already doing well and I'm sure you'l pick up some tips from here- and no doubt we will from you too as you share your stories with us. So yes, of course you can stay and I'll look forward to hearing more about how you're doing.

Uncle Joshua

hello lucy, you'll enjoy it here i only found this place about a month ago but everyone is really friendly and it's much better than any gardening book you'll learn so much! The only down side is that this site is no good for seed addiction!!! you'll find so many new things to grow that you've never heard of before ;D

Ooh, don't talk to me about seed addiction - I quit smoking at the end of Jan and seem to have replaced one addiction with another!  ;D

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, you really are a friendly lot! I'll have to step away from the sweeties as our house is suffering from complete chocolate overload <groan!> but I'd love to try the schnapps, it sounds delicious - cheers!  ;D

Right, let's see if I can post a pic of the garden from this time last year...bizarrely we don't seem to have any this year yet, will try and rectify that this week.

Did that work?? Off to bed now so will try again tomorrow if not - night all!

Hi Lucy

That's a lovely lawn you have - must be a real pain to mow and with all that lovely soil underneath...........

Just a thought ;D ;D ;D

My thought exactly!  ;D ;D ;D

Hello Lucy!

Many of us here have plotties rather than lotties - I once had more grass than you ~ but not now, tho 8)  You mention sweet peppers, aubies & chillies...do you have a greenhouse? And you're growing tomatillos! I grew them for the first time two years ago - big plants, they become. Strange fruit, but nice.

And your cat has a fabulous tail!

It's lovely to meet you - if you'd like to know anything about gardening with freebie black bukkits, just ask  ;) ;D

Cheers!
