Allotments 4 All

Just wanted to say hello to you all : got my 1/2 plot 3 weeks ago and had it rotovated, not sure where to start.  Have been told to expect hard frosts and lots of crows - should I be digging this over until I start planting (potatos, beans, etc) at Easter? or just leave it alone and wait for a bit? any work to be done??? the soil is lovely and rich/crumbly

Welcome to the site, you seem to have done well out of that... I'd leave it a few weeks just to see if any perennial weeds like docks/dandelions/couch pop up ...  :-X

Welcome to the site Mrs. If the soil is workable a dig won't hurt it if you had any perrenial weeds in it before it was rotovated then you will want to get this out before you start planting.

thanks for advice - I will start weeding a bit then as there is a lot of grass rotovated in and some couch grass roots (lots)

I would dig some now if you have the chance.  March onwards is busy enough as it is with sowing, transplanting as well as digging.  May as well get a bit done now to ease the burden later ;D ;D

  Congrats on your new plot , will say maybe cover with membrane or plastic any

  areas you will get to later - turn your back and them weeds appear !

  Decide what to plant first off and get a patch dug over,   as said  - you may

  have some roots waiting to sprout again  and look out for couch grass,    >:(   you do not

  want that,      Hope you enjoy your first year        :D
