I am very sad to find that my first planting of beetroot is bolting and I have never had this happen before in years of growing it - usually grow Pronto and Bolthardy - as I walked around the plots I noticed that others are doing the same - is this a national thing, is anyone else having this problem?

am glad to say that the other 3 plantings appear to be fine

very unusual in my experience

I have no problem with bolting on beetroot, but I did have lousy germination rate on the first sowing, the replacements are still very small.  I do have a problem with my turnips though! loads going to seed.  I will try to save some and see if they grow next year.

the stem starts to stretch and the beetroot doesn't get any bigger, eventually, the stem produces a flower head , hope this makes sense  :)

Mine has started to bolt this week too but we have loads more to come
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

interesting - I know the weather has been a bit iffy this year but all the same I think this is unusual for me anyway - maybe it has been the small pockets of strange weather that has confused the plants but they were sown as usual in March - I miss my beetroot at this time of year  :'(

I have to say, with apologies, that my beetroot have been excellent this year. No bolting, good size, lovely shape. The next challenge is to persuade my family to like beets as much as  I do.  My wife was put off by vinegary pickled beetroot as a child. :)

my Boltardy has all bolted, but my chioggia and cylinrida are fine, all were planted at the same time and are in the same bed......  wonders of nature... ::)

None of my 6 have bolted ........yet. I have sown some more a few weeks ago for a late crop (sown due to the extraordinarily large crop sown previously ::))
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Once they start to bolt it is often a good idea to lift the lot as it seems to be catching

They are as useful as a pregnant slug once they have bolted
