Little Gem, crunchy and good flavour.

First time this year for me growing them and I really like them.

Not as small as some catalogues say, but very fast growers.........I like them.

Grew "All the Year Round" last year.  They were nice too.

My secret is Nematodes!  No slug damage at all this year! best £12 i have spent on the veg plot.

Just watered in another application last night and what a difference.

I put lettuce in to attract slugs!

Keeps them away from my runners  ;D
You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose

Fork

I dont have any particular lettuce that I like above all the others.

Some I find bitter but most get smothered in some sort of salad dressing anyway!  ;D

We grow 'little gem' in raised beds at home so we can pick them as needed. They are very crisp and taste nice. I have some 'webbs wonderful' seeds but didn't get around to sowing them this year. We have tried some red/green kos type that were given to us as plug plants from a lottle neighbour, but they seem to go limb about 10 mins after cutting. Will be sticking to the 'little gem'.

Thanks Tim .....Thanks ChrisG.... I think I will give nematodes a try next year:)

salt lol

thegreatgardener

It secret to good lettuce in salads is planting a packet that is mix of several varieties.
If one variety is strong flavoured, weak flavoured or bolts easily you have others that that fill the
slot. To keep lettuce from bolting it is best harvested in 4-6 weeks during hot weather.

Continuity, variety, flavour, storability - the story of our lives!!

Bubbly Berry

really Tim check out Heligan seeds. :)

I should have added:

1. Fristina
3. Sherwood
4. Dublin
5. Claremont

Strangely, Sherwood has refused to germinate this year.
